2010Top 10 Mommy iPhone Apps!

My iPhone homepage.
In honor of the new iPhone 4G that is due to come out in the US on June 24th & my incredible yearning for it, I thought I would list the Top Ten iPhone Apps that I use daily & are useful as a busy momma!
I am a huge fan and totally pro-iPhone.
I hope they keep making them cuz this momma isn’t buying any other type of phone.
Anyway, I arrange my iPhone pages according to use. To your left you see my home screen. The iPhone already comes with basic apps that are useful such as the calendar & calculator. HUGE app that comes with the phone is Maps. GPS comes in quite handy! As well as the Safari browser if you decide to opt out of the free Google app which I find crashes too much. I use the clock app as an alarm clock & stopwatch.
The apps that I list are according to my preference and everyday use and I’m sure differs depending on individual lifestyles.
But, these are the ones I suggest.
1. WeatherEye- Cost: FREE
This to me is super handy when I’m planning to pack up to go out and run errands, have commitments to attend to or just going out for the day. I always fire it up when I wake up & see what the weather will be like. It list the current weather, the afternoon & overnight. Humidity, possibility of precipitation & so on. It is pretty detailed & gives you all the information that The Weather Network does. It also gives you the week ahead to give you an idea what kind of week we’re in for. I also like that when there are warnings or watches issued in my area. It flashes RED & links you to The Weather Network site for more info. It helped me throughout these last huge storms we experienced.
2. Yellowpages-Cost: FREE
This is a given. Whenever I’m out and about and need to find a phone number for a business or establishment, I just open this baby up & get what I need. Including address, maps if available & a direct link to make the phone call.
3. Lose It!- Cost: FREE
For those mommies out there counting calories! I use it to count calories, track my weight loss and stay on track. It offers calories from restaurants and grocery stores and allows you to enter your own foods they don’t have in their database. It also has graphs showing your progress. It gives you the option to upload your information onto their website so you will always have it, if goodness forbid, your phone crashes! *gasp* You can also have buddies, whoever you want to allow to see your information & vice versa, to keep you motivated.
4. Baby 411- Cost: FREE
From the makers of The Bump. This app is helpful if you have any questions on newborns, toddlers & preschoolers as well as your own women’s health. You are able to ask any question & other moms can connect with you & give you their advice. Or you can answer other mom’s questions & give them a hand. They also have a database with tons of information about baby & mom issues that are extremely useful. It’s up to you to take the advice though. To me it is always nice to ask other moms that have been through what I’m going through at the exact moment. But, we all have mommy instinct if it doesn’t seem right, contact your Pediatrician before doing anything. Still, an awesome app though! I also like helping other moms!
5. Angry Birds- Cost: $0.99
This game is tons of fun! I absolutely love it myself. Pretty much you get a set of birds that all have different abilities, they’re angry at pigs that always seem to be up to no good. You are able to catapult these birds in a series of different challenging levels to destroy and *POP* these pigs. I love playing this game but the biggest thing is I can just hand it over to my 6 year-old Gabs & that keeps her busy! Great for car rides or long trips & super cheap!
6. iTrackBaby-Cost: $3.99
I enjoy this app because it tracks your baby’s growth. Tells you down to the day how old your baby is and gives you milestones that baby should be performing at their age. It also lets you take pictures & dates them so you can see your baby grow right before your eyes through pictures. It has an option to list your baby’s next doctor’s appointment and what you should expect at each appointment. As well as an option for notes so you can ask your doctor & have them there so you don’t forget. One of the best things in this app is the graph charts of your baby’s growth. Height, weight & head circumference. It tells you what percentile your child is in so you know exactly (by the data you enter) how your child is growing. Another great option is marking down the exact date that your child reached a milestone, they have generic ones & then ones you can add yourself. It’s really great to see how your child is growing & at what rate.
7. Facebook & Twitter Apps- Cost: Free
What mommy doesn’t like to stay connected but doesn’t have the time to run to a computer to update or connect with their friends/family? Umm, almost ALL mommies! I personally use TwitBird for Twitter since I am usually on Twitter. I love it and have tried all of them out there, including the official Twitter app. Twitbird has all I need. It has tons of options and links to many apps that make tweeting easier. Such as Twitpic or Twitlonger. The Facebook app, to me is very buggy. I’ve yet to find a better replacement so I use the official one. It has most options that you have on the online version but, some things are a pain. I use it rarely but for those mommies who are huge Facebookers, it’s for you!
8. ShopShop-Cost: FREE
This is a very basic & easy to use app to help you do your grocery shopping. You simply input the grocery item, the amount you need and it accumulates a list for you. When you go shopping you just bust it out and as you collect the items you run your finger across the item and it slashes it through and crosses it off your list. You can make multiple lists for different places you will visit. For example, Wal-Mart, A&P etc. I’m sure there is more sophisticated apps for this but to me it’s simpler than pen and paper & much more handy! Literally!
9. iPeriod-Cost:$1.99
The name says it all. This app tracks your period. Yup, whenever Aunt Flo decides to come back a’ knockin’, enter iPeriod. It predicts your next periods for the year & alerts you when you are due for your next cycle. It is password protected, in case someone tries to snoop your phone! You can backup & store your data, export it to your email and it has a pregnancy mode for my preggos out there!
10. My Account-Cost: FREE
It is from Rogers. This gives you your bill, account balance & usage. Both web & wireless. How many picture/video msgs sent ETC. It’s useful for me because I go paperless. I get my bill through my email but this app shows me exactly how much usage I have left or have used. Also, the exact balance so I can easily make a payment.
These are just the apps that I use regulary as a mom. Other apps that I use just as much personally and are mostly FREE is the WordPress app for my blogging needs, Kijiji if I ever need to sell anything, eBay, well that’s self-explanatory, FastFoodCal-$0.99 to calculate my calories when I eat out, Tumblr app to manage my blog with them, Photobucket to upload my pics, Flixter for when I need to check a time for a movie in the theatres or for a movie to rent, Shazam for finding the name for that song I don’t know the name of! I love music so it’s big for me & it directs me to iTunes to DL so pretty cool. Also, many apps come in the ‘Lite’ version which is free & to try out before you purchase!
There are so many apps out there but these are just ones that suit my lifestyle. I also have a ton for entertainment purposes but, that’s a whole ‘nother subject. If you are an iPhone user & haven’t tried out any of these apps yet, give them a shot! If you see any that I don’t have listed and I’m missing out, let me in on the good apps! *wink* So, get at me!
