2010Be Stylish & Discrete with BabyBond Nursing Covers!

I am completely pro-breastfeeding and I’m currently going 8 months strong nursing my second child.
I am a firm believer that a mother should be able to nurse her child whenever and wherever she pleases, apart from being the law, if my child is hungry–I’m going to feed her.
Regardless, when nursing in public I choose to use a nursing cover. Simply for personal reasons. During these last 8 months I’ve used a traditional nursing cover and it worked well for the first 2 months or so. After that, Mimi just ripped that sucker off, leaving me exposed. I either went without or used a receiving blanket which 9 times out of 10 ended up exactly like my nursing cover.
Ripped off and in my lap.
I don’t know about you but, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on unflattering nursing tops and as aforementioned, I rather cover myself up. I do not want to feed my baby a bottle in public places just to avoid exposure so, finding a nursing cover that works is definitely on my list of things to do.
Thankfully the kind people from Baby Bonds offered to send me a nursing cover of my choice, their slogan is “Cover mom–not her baby”, “Baby Bond covers promote nursing and conversing. Feed your baby. Nourish your relationship.”
I was immediately intrigued and stoked on trying this out. It’s exactly what I’m after and I absolutely had to test it out.
The Baby Bond Nursing cover was designed by Missy Reder, a speech pathologist that learned that pre-verbal skills, eye contact, and attention are vital to cognitive and language development. She went on to design three different types of nursing covers. Ones that help cover mom’s post-baby tummy and back and that is comfortable for both baby and mom.
The Original Baby Bond nursing cover is worn like a sash, functioning like a nursing top. Nurse from the top of your shirt. Separate the layers of fabric to achieve latch on. Double panel keeps breast covered above & below. Belly & back remain covered with your own shirt. Built-in 9 x 12″ double layer terry velour burp cloth. Stores in matching pouch. The BabyBond Flex nursing cover acts the same, the only difference is that it has a detachable burp cloth (or you can use any cloth) and you can use nursing cover with or without a burping cloth.
This is how they work:

Well, I chose the BabyBond Couture nursing cover which is adjustable creating a custom fit as your body changes after baby arrives. A hybrid between nursing top and belly band, it can be worn to nurse from the top or the bottom of your shirt so it works with your entire wardrobe. When worn like a sash, it functions like a nursing top. When worn like a belt, it functions like a belly band. Rolls up into self-storing pouch.
Why?

This comes in Charcoal Gray, Expresso Brown, Navy, Turquoise and Hudson Black. Which I chose because I love black and wear a lot of it pre & post baby.
The description itself is self-explanatory but, what really made me choose the BabyBond Couture is the fact that it is adjustable. I’m petite (in other words reaaally short) and well-endowed in the chest area and having the ability to adjust it to my body is extremely useful. All this while keeping my changing body covered gets two-thumbs up for me already. Also, it meshes perfectly with my wardrobe already, which consists of a lot of v-neck shirts in dark colors. Even if I do choose to wear a higher neckline, I can wrap the BabyBond Couture to cover my torso too.
I chose the nursing cover in Hudson (black) and was pretty excited when I received the package in the mail. It came in a very trendy box and it already came rolled up. It’s perfect for unrolling to use and even better to roll up and throw in the diaper bag or in my purse. It doesn’t take up room and it’s neatly put away and not folded awkwardly like my old cover. It is made from quality material and the stitching has matching quality. (It’s made in the US and made from 100% cotton and machine washable as well.)
I took it out of the box and unrolled it and immediately I noticed that the instructions are printed on tags right on the actual cover/wrap. I followed the instructions and managed to fit it properly against my body. Well, at least what I thought properly! I did watch their YouTube video to affix it the proper way before I started to nurse Mimi. It can be a bit tricky and it takes a few tries to get it right.

So, my little Mimi is a wiggly worm and since she was about 2 months of age, any new voice or sound would distract her and she would immediately try to rip the cover from her head and flail her arms until I either removed it or took her off the breast. As she got older, she became quite adept at ripping the cover off altogether.
I nurse wherever I go, if it’s time to feed Mimi–I prepare and adjust and off we go. Well, we set off to a trip to the mall and it was time for a feeding. I slipped on the cover over a thin black v-neck top and discreetly began to feed. She fed contently and if something did distract her she came off the breast and the cover slipped close and didn’t leave me exposed.
I can positively without a doubt say that I wholeheartedly ADORE this cover, I can make full eye contact with her and caress her little hair and watch her get milk drunk. Here’s Mimi and I, nursing at my parent’s house.

Here is Michaela all milk drunk.
I am absolutely loving my BabyBond Couture and will continue to use it for the remainder of my breastfeeding experience with Michaela. If I have another baby in the near future, I will definitely use it with him/her.
I highly recommend this nursing cover to any mom who is passionate about breastfeeding and who chooses to use a cover when nursing in public. It is discrete, stylish and highly practical.
Not to mention it’s from a mom-owned company making products for moms!
They come in trendy colors and for the price of $36.99, you can’t go wrong. That’s the average price for one nursing top nowadays so, you get your money’s worth with a BabyBond.
