2011Accudial Review: OTC Meds- Under or Over-dosing?
I am very blessed to have children that don’t get sick often.
Even with a school-aged child, I think I can count the times that my children have been sick!
I know, I know please don’t hate me!
But, this mama happens to be slightly germophobic and I tend to practice hand-washing techniques like crazy.
Anyways, when they do get sick, I tend to exhaust all natural home remedies before I head on over to the pharmacy and purchase over-the-counter medication to relieve their discomfort.
I get home and I don’t have the slightest clue on how much to give them.
Am I giving too much?
Am I giving too little?
H E L P!
Enter Accudial.
Accudial makes over-the-counter medication for cold and flu, allergies and pain relief. The Pain and Fever and the Allergy products are for kids 2 and up. The rest of the product lines are for children ages 6-12.
According to the American Medical Association, over 72% of children are dosed inaccurately with OTC medications. Also, according to the American Association of Pediatrics, approximately 27,000 children in the U.S. under the age of 14 are treated annually for over-dosage of over-the-counter acetaminophen alone.
Why?
When dosages are set by weight, it is so variable to each individual child that it loses accuracy, there is simply not enough printable space to list accurate and thorough instructions or the spoons or measuring devices are not calibrated properly.
Or you can be just like me and find it overwhelming when there is TOO much or TOO little information. You don’t want to risk giving them too much and on the other end of the spectrum, giving too little.
They have an innovative and incredibly accurate way of measuring the correct dose for your child. Accudial makes over the counter medication to relieve many ailments from the cold and flu to pain and fever suppressant in flavors that kids aged 6-12 will like. So, when Accudial asked me to check out their unique label and send me the aid that I needed to be at ease with medicating my sick child, I was more than willing to test it out.
Please watch the video and see for yourself.
What I loved about Accudial:
- It was very easy to use.
- It allowed me to find the accurate dose for my child by weight NOT age.
- It allowed me to use OTC medication in a way that I reduced the risk of over-dosing or under-dosing my child.
- The label itself is straight to the point.
- There is plenty of information on the label and a number to reach if you have questions.
- The spoon is accurate and once you’ve found the right dosage, you can choose ML’s or TSP’s.
- It came in Grape flavor and my daughter was excited about that.
To be honest, there really isn’t anything that I didn’t like about this Accudial labeling system. It really helps you find the dosage you need and leaves the guessing game out of properly medicating your child at home.
That being said, Accudial has graciously offered to giveaway 2 of their products to 2 of Whispered Inspirations’ readers!

I would use the Allergy product as I have a son with severe allergies. Currently we carry Benedryl every where, but you are right, the labels suck! He’s very small for his age so I usually dose based on the age category below his.

I would choose the Nite Time Cough and Cold.

with having 3 children very close in age 7 weight, this would be a handy tool, especially in the middle of the night, which seems to be the most common time to be administering meds!

Great video review. Really nailed the point you were trying to get across. I too prefer to use every home remedy possible before taking my son to the doctor. His mom is really anal about that..lol!
