The TELUS FitBit Challenge.
Wearable technology that tracks your fitness.
Not to mention, it screens your calls and in my opinion, a completely and totally awesome feature. I never thought that a piece of technology would motivate me to get up and get moving. I believe there are a lot of factors that have contributed to my weight gain and one of the top reasons would be inactivity. I sit at my desk for most of the day and then relax with the family after a day’s work.
That only means that I am not moving enough, plain and simple. Well, TELUS (my BFF) challenged me to the TELUS #EveryStepCounts FitBit Challenge. A challenge where a group of bloggers battle it out and see who would be able to get the most steps. At first, the task seemed a bit daunting. But, I was determined.
Get to Steppin’.
As you can see from the chart throughout the competition, I progressively grew. It’s actually quite nice to see since it’s an actual visual of my hard work. I started slow, from 3K then 5K and then I broke 10K. That was simply from setting up a reminder to get up and move every 2 hours. I walked and played with the dog, ran around with the kids, danced to 80’s jams and took the kids to and from school.
My highest days can be accounted by one of my other favorite things to do in the world. Of course, that’s shopping! Since I live in a border city, I am able to cross the border to go shopping in less than half an hour. On my record days, I walked the lanes of Great Lakes Crossings. The mall has 9 districts of fabulous stores and a whole lotta steps to put in. You can see how big the mall is, here.
I’m happy to say that even though the challenge is over, I am still moving more and remaining consistent in my steps. Which leads me to believe that this FitBit actually helped me to create a new but good habit. One that pushes me to continue to move and not be so sedentary. I’m hoping to continue this momentum no matter how sore I am or tired. I know that in the long run, it’s good for me.
Next On the Agenda.
I need to tackle getting more sleep at night. Even though my body needs rest and I know it, I have deadlines, a family to tend to and a puppy to take care of. Not to mention, I have a really bad TV show binging addiction that I can only stream after the kids are in bed. That alone impedes me from making my desired bedtime. Sometimes I have to work into the night to make quick turnaround deadlines. It’s a variety of things, some things that are beyond my control.
The FitBit is definitely telling me that I need more sleep, though on the first day I didn’t log it properly because while I do get little sleep, I definitely get more than 2 hours! My goal is to increase it to at least 6-7 hours even though somehow my body has gotten accustomed to much less! It is a work in progress, that is for sure.
The FitBit Charge.
This wearable technology is a high-performance wristband that will deliver real-time fitness stats right to your phone or your FitBit account on your computer. OLED display shows you steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, stairs climbed and active minutes. After you’ve stepped to your goal, you can track your sleep and set a silent alarm to wake you up. This was one of my favorite features, it gently vibrates and wakes you up without the annoying rings or tones of the usual alarms.
The Charge will monitor your trends by wirelessly syncing data to your smartphone and computer. So no matter where you are, you can stay motivated to step up your fitness and beat your goals. Earning badges when I hit new records really motivated me. It made me feel good knowing that I was surpassing my goals and improving.

A Few FitBit Moments.
I had plenty of chances to move, above you’ll see my FitBit, me shopping and getting my steps in and since we had Snowmageddon, you’ll see me after I shoveled a ton of snow. You’ll see when I hit my first big goal of 16K steps. Of course, my trusty FitBit was with me the whole time and helped me track my progress step by step.

The Finishing Line
I’m happy I got a chance to compete in this competition that ran from February 2nd and ended on Friday the 13th! I ended up coming in 2ND PLACE against two amazing ladies who gave me a run for my money. For the entire two weeks, we battled for first place and consistently pushed ourselves even more everyday! They made maintaining 2nd place a challenge. But, in the end, with sore muscles and all–I did it! I’m happy to say that I am going to try to maintain this momentum. Small steps can amount to big changes and that is exactly what I need in my life. So, thank-you TELUS for sparking the change that needed to be made!
Ready to WIN?
One lucky CANADIAN Whispered Inspirations reader will get the chance to win their very own FitBit Charge and start stepping their way to change! Or maybe, you’re already there and want something to track your fitness. This contest opens on February 18th, 2015 and closes on March 6th, 2015.
