Starbucks Cold Brew is Here!
I’m a big Starbucks fan and when they announce that they have launched a new drink, well, I just HAVE to have it! Since summer is in full swing, when I go to Starbucks, I order a Starbucks cold brew. Something cold but with just enough caffeine goodness that will keep me energized and cool.
New ‘nitro’ Cold Brew Coffee is a hot new beverage trend in Canada. In fact, according to Google Trends data, searches for Cold Brew were nearly non-existent in 2013 and increased by 200% from 2014 to 2015.
It makes you wonder why the sudden and massive jump in interest was in just one year, right? Last year Starbucks introduced its small-batch Cold Brew coffee, providing customers across the country with more access to this relatively “indie” beverage.
What is Cold Brew?
It is a brew that is carefully steeped and a barista freshly grinds special Starbucks® Cold Brew Blend, then steeps the coffee in cool water for 20 hours. That’s a mighty long time to get that delicious taste! This results in a concentrated coffee that when carefully measured and combined with water and ice, creates a naturally sweet, smooth Cold Brew coffee.
Cold Brewing is a method of crafting iced coffee where our baristas combine cool water with coarse ground coffee and steep for 20 hours. Time replaces heat to extract the coffee, and the result is a cold coffee concentrate that when combined with water and ice creates a smooth cold brewed coffee.
We went to Starbucks to test out the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew and I have to admit, I am kinda addicted. Even my Hubby who isn’t too big of a coffee drinker really enjoyed it. You can really taste the difference in not using heat and steeping instead. A lot more notes are present, like chocolate and citrus. It’s just delicious!
