How to Make the Most Out of a Hotel Room

Hotels can be great fun to stay in, (like this holiday accommodation in Sydney CBD), but they are often the most expensive part of any trip. It’s important to make sure you make the most of them. Read on for some great tips on how to use everything in your room to its full potential. Plus, it can help make your life much easier as well as saving you a little cash in the process.

Appliances

You are usually given a number of appliances as standard in your hotel room. From kettles, irons, and TV’s. You can use them for more than just what they’re designed for. If you’re a savvy traveller, you’ll know to take a few cables with you. You can use the TV to charge your cameras and phones. You can even use it to hook up other devices like your phone or laptop. Once you are hooked up, you can pick up where you left off on Netflix on the big screen.

A kettle is very handy when it comes to saving some money. Kettles provide boiling water which can be used to cook lots of different foods such as boiling an egg or pasta. This means that you can still have a hot meal without having to pay hotel restaurant prices. If you’re like me, you take advantage of saving a few bucks by boiling a cup of hotel coffee. That way, I can splurge on food later!

Freebies

A lot of hotels provide little freebies just in case there is anything you have forgotten or just to make your stay more enjoyable. For example, you’ll often find tea and coffee to enjoy. You’ll also find shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion in your room.

Sometimes, you’ll be given shower caps. After you use it, you can reuse it. For example, you could use your shower cap as a shoe protector. I do this all the time and continue to reuse it. It’s a great way to pack your shoes in your luggage without getting your clothes dirty.

Just don’t forget to ask. A lot of perks are available and often complimentary. All you have to do is ask!

Arrive Early, Stay Late

To really make the most out of your hotel stay and you’re a part of a hotel loyalty program, take advantage of the perks. Even if you aren’t part of hotel loyalty programs, you can always call ahead to see if you can arrive earlier.

If they can’t accommodate, they will usually check your bag for free until your room is ready and you can head out to do some touring or to grab a bite.

Checking out late isn’t an odd request. Most hotels will accommodate you if their occupancy levels allow. It never hurts to ask!

Celebrate Special Moments

Think Birthday, Anniversary, Baby Moon–anything! If you let the hotel know at the time of booking, they may just throw in any extra perks that they have at hand. Maybe a bottle of bubbly, a chocolate covered strawberry plate, flowers etc.

They may even let you sleep in a little longer with a late check-out. If they don’t’ ask you during the time of booking (sometimes it gets lost), you can let them know that you are excited to be celebrating with them.

Be Friendly and Always Tip

If you get to know the hotel staff and the cleaning staff, you’ll find that they will get to know you too. Always tip them well for a great job done and it will make your stay even better. I often ask them for their local recommendations and they are a wealth of information. As always, being friendly goes a long way anywhere you go.
