ShesConnected 2011: A Wealth of Information.
It was my first conference and my first experience at a blogging conference. I first and foremost want to thank the lovely team over at ShesConnected and the fabulous sponsors that delivered on an information-packed 2 day-conference of knowledgeable speakers and brands that we all know and love.
A medium to express ourselves, to connect with our peers beyond the avatars and a place to learn our true worth as writers and bloggers. To reestablish or for some, learn about our role that stands with brands and the mutual relationship that can be fostered and maintained.
I’ve relearned that we all have a voice. We are all capable of so much and that social media is a perfect medium to achieve what you want to achieve. About human connection. About believing in yourself, what you represent and what you stand for.
Everyone has an agenda, goals and dreams and we are the only ones standing in the way of them.
I’ve also learned what some influential brands are seeking from us writers and bloggers, how they perceive us and also heard the intelligent views and opinions of both parties. Brands and my peers, those who are just beginning and those who have already arrived.
Connecting with brands and real people who are behind them was definitely an experience that not everyone has the chance to do. The opportunity to share our opinions, praise and maybe some constructive criticisms or ideas of what we’d like to see next.
It was refreshing to see that the interest is there on behalf of brands and they want to listen to what we have to say.
The experience itself was great and the treatment that ShesConnected was by far superior. Meeting all the girls that I chat with on Twitter on the regular was surreal and it felt as if I already knew them. Twitter never ceases to amaze me at it’s possibilities and the ability it has to connect people who are miles and miles apart on such a personal level.
I met so many of my lovely ladies that I talk to on the regular. There was @AskMamaMoe, @MilkandCoco, @GGirlGGreen, @aaricamakeupblg, @GingerMommy, @SweetMamaBrady, @BewilderedBug, @HabitueTO, @JustNikiV, @_littlemisskate, @AMotherhoodBlog, @TeacherMomof2 @CouponMomCanada and soooo many more awesome digital women!
Christine, @ChancesMommy, was a complete sweetheart and she brought me some chocolates from Manitoulin Island, she is truly one of the sweetest persons that I have ever met! They were delicious by the way!
Thursday night there was a Town Shoes party that involved lots of STLTO Wine, shelves and shelves of sexy shoes and so many beautiful ladies to take in the fun. There were so many prizes given out, a live DJ and of course a red carpet. There were amazing heure’oeuvres too!
I was lucky enough to have won of the FABULOUS prizes from Foxy Originals! They have such a gorgeous line of jewelery and I got 2 pieces! The best part of Foxy Originals is that they are local and handmade.
Did I mention that I love Toronto?
I may have, once or twice.
I finally got to meet the beautiful, energetic and ever so gracious Donna (@DonnaAntoniadis) who is behind SCCTO! She donned sexy heels and her @FordCanada shirt of course and she literally lit up the room! Thank-you Donna for a great time!
One of the most fun things I got to do was meet Christine Cushing and she was absolutely sweet, patient and so down to earth. She signed her latest cookbook for me and gave me one of her 100% natural and organic extra virgin olive oil. I cannot wait to try it, I use olive oil regularly and coming from a chef like her…
I can’t wait!
Now, for the cool part. The red carpet treatment, the AMAZING swag and trying out Ford’s amazing cars was awesome considering that I am a car geek. I love them! There was karaoke, video games, even self-parking a Ford!
ShesConnected was a great conference to connect with like-minded women, veterans and brand new bloggers on the scene! And to network with brands that we’ve known and loved for many years and use every day. I learned how writers and bloggers are valued and the impact that we have on brands and theirs on us.
I also decided which car I may want to get next and that is the Ford C-Max which is an electric/hybrid crossover. I can go on and on about the innovative things Ford is doing and that I am very happy at what they are doing to reduce their carbon footprint.
I can say that I’ve walked away from SCCTO with such a wealth of information, more confidence and lots of new connections. Thanks again to everyone who made it possible, all the speakers on the panels who graced us with their experience and knowledge, the sponsors and of course the SCCTO team.
To all the ladies who I finally met, I can’t wait to see most of you at Blissdom Canada and for those of you not attending, I can’t wait til we meet again! Take a peek at my FB page, Whispered Inspirations to check out more SCCTO pictures from the conference!
Til then, cheers m’deres!
