Today, we remember a great man, one who was just that, a man. One capable of mistakes like us all but one who fought for equality and made a lasting difference. ⠀

Today, I remember Coretta Scott King, who said, "𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘺 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴." ⠀

As a Latina, he is an inspiration. MLK embodies seeking social equality and justice. Because of his example, our marginalized community stood up for civil rights.⠀
⠀
Injustices are still happening. Speak up and stand against them today and every single day. Use your privilege for good if you have it. Exercise your right to vote for leaders who will serve and stand up for everyone.⠀

Wishing my husband, Darasak, a Happy Anniversary today. We've grown so much together, and I am happy to have done it with my best friend. ⠀
⠀
This year alone has been a challenge for everyone, but we have made the most out of this year, and we have come out of it stronger than ever. ⠀
⠀
We've laughed, we've cried, prepared and enjoyed many meals together, binge-watched all of Netflix, went out in nature, took on tons of DIY projects and built things with our own hands. ⠀
⠀
Today, I looked back at some of my favourite memories. This was at our vow renewal at Disney. We were with our family, the weather was perfect, and in the distance behind us, you can see Cinderella's castle. ⠀
⠀
It was a magical day, but, then again, every day is. Even when life throws us curveballs.⠀
⠀
Darasak, I love you. Thank you for being my partner and best friend. For being the best father to our girls.⠀
⠀
To all of you lovely folks, if you've read this far, I wish you all a Happy New Year. ⠀
⠀
I know this year has been so hard, it's been full of despair, and it just keeps giving but, I hope you've been able to find a little light and hope for better days. I wish you all happiness, good health, and love.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 37. 😜⠀

Another trip around the sun, and what a ride it has been! I began this year with so many plans and goals, but the world had different plans. ⠀
⠀
That's okay.⠀
⠀
This year was full of love, togetherness, and a different kind of fun. I know sometimes it can feel like we are stuck at home but, I like to look at it like we are safe at home. ⠀
⠀
That's a blessing in itself.⠀
⠀
So, 37 today... what?⠀
⠀
I guess age doesn't feel a certain way. You are the age that you feel. I'm just happy to be here, and I'm hopeful for the coming year.⠀
⠀
𝟓 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈'𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨 𝐅𝐚𝐫:⠀
⠀
1️⃣ 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧. Sometimes we feel like we need to do it all, or we put too much on our plate at a time. Rest is more important than you think. It is a matter of health. Make time for it, and make time for yourself. Get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water. Do less, and do things that you love and make you happy.⠀
⠀
2️⃣ 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. Plain and simple, diets suck. I learned that to feel good; you have to make your lifestyle sustainable. It won't be perfect, there will always be bumps, but like anything, balance is key. Give yourself grace, and keep trucking.⠀
⠀
3️⃣ 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟. I can remember being a teen without a worry in the world like it was yesterday. Now, I'm counting gray hairs. 😁 Enjoy and appreciate every single moment with the ones you love.⠀
⠀
4️⃣ 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲. Put yourself in people's shoes. It can help you understand people more. Help and give whenever you can and do it without any expectation.⠀
⠀
5️⃣ 𝐈 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧. If I've learned anything in my 37 years, I've learned that I am sometimes wrong in what I think I know, and that life still has plenty to teach me. I'm excited to see what it has in store.⠀

Every day we wake up to see is a blessing. This morning I am sipping on my proffee Hubby made for me, listening to some Fleetwood Mac, getting hugs, and opening Birthday gifts from my babies. ⠀

Seriously, that is my motto for the rest of the year and beyond. I still have a bit to do for the holidays, but I'm just going to enjoy my second proffee of the day, listen to some music, and relax. ⠀

The holidays are our favourite time of year, and I think it’s because of the feeling that the holidays bring. Pure, unequivocal joy, and happiness. ⠀
⠀
Though I know that the holidays aren’t always like this for everyone. Especially if they are missing someone this time of year and most especially because of the world we live in. ⠀
⠀
I’m a big believer in thinking positive and maintaining a positive mindset, but I know that being positive 24/7 is not realistic or healthy.⠀
⠀
I am also an advocate of allowing ourselves to have negative feelings. That way, we don’t suppress them, understand them, work through them, and eventually move past them. ⠀
⠀
Feelings are valid, and it’s okay to not always be 100% or full of joy, even during the holidays.⠀
⠀
Feel free to reach out if you need a shoulder to lean on.⠀
⠀
While this year will be very different, this month is always packed with special celebrations for us. Along with the holidays, my birthday falls on this month, and our anniversary too. ⠀
⠀
A couple of weeks ago, we headed to @annasflowers and picked up these amazing little houses. We have them on the fireplace mantle, and I love them. We grabbed one for each end! We dropped in mini trees, and I love how it turned out.⠀
⠀
𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 (𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐞) 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬.⠀

I have my ‘Joy to the World’ sign out as a reminder that if I am grateful to feel joyful this year, it’s okay to acknowledge the hardship or grief I experienced to get to where I am today.⠀

I am excited to be home with my family for the rest of this year. That’s what gives me joy and happiness.⠀
⠀

On top of that, I ran out of gift tags so, I got creative.⠀

This year, we opted to go traditional and use brown butcher paper. It's recyclable, reusable, and I love the simplicity. ⠀
⠀
Truth be told, I'm not the best wrapper. Darasak, on the other hand, is pro. One thing that I do like to do is liven them up with my own special touch. Either with yarn, string, acorns, and sprigs of pine.⠀
⠀
I guess I can get crafty and try to make up for my not-so-perfect wrapping.⠀
⠀
𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐖𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒:⠀
⠀
𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐠 𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫: No time to be wasted, drop a gift in, add tissue—sip on your egg nog, done!⠀

𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫: You make your gifts look special and unique. There are different levels of craftiness, but you rather spend $$$ on supplies rather than fancy paper.⠀
⠀
𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐤 𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫: Not the best wrapper, but you get the best wrapping paper in bulk, and they shine! They may not be perfect but, they're just gonna rip it anyway!⠀
⠀
𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫: Don't confuse them with the crafty wrapper. These look like the pros wrapped them! Perfect seams and double-sided tape are your BFF's.⠀
⠀
𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫: You save your loved ones the time and gift them in the fancy bags the store gives you or just the bag it came in. Nothing wrong with it—you may be a genius!⠀
