Black Lives Matter.⠀ ⠀ I've taken some time to collect my thoughts until late last night. I've been outraged, angry, fed up, and then incredibly and deeply saddened with the state of the world. ⠀ ⠀ What makes me even angrier is that the marginalization of the black community and of minorities is not new. It is now being recorded for the world to see.⠀ ⠀ I haven't had the heart to watch the murder of George Floyd. I know how it ends. Police brutality has been happening for too long. ⠀ ⠀ 𝑰'𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔: 𝑵𝒐 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒅𝒖𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏.⠀ ⠀ 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗗.⠀ ⠀ My husband and I are visible minorities. We have mixed-race children. Discrimination is something that we've experienced and my girls have experienced since birth. We are respectful yet cautious with authority and police officers, we get followed around while we shop, we get told to go back to our country & more. I don't say this for sympathy but because even while experiencing this, I know that we still have more privilege than those with darker skin. ⠀ ⠀ A traffic stop can mean not living to see tomorrow for a member of the black community.⠀ ⠀ It is not right. ⠀ ⠀ Racism is unacceptable, plain and simple. That's why it's up to every single person to speak up against it. ⠀ ⠀ To acknowledge there is a huge problem. Stop making excuses for people in your life who still think black lives have less worth. I know it's hard to speak up against loved ones and friends but, there is power in numbers. The more you stand up and become an ally for POC, the less those who feel they have the power to discriminate will become silent.⠀ ⠀ Don't turn away because this problem doesn't affect you. ⠀ ⠀ Let's teach our kids to see colour. To understand their privilege. To not fear what is different.⠀ ⠀ While cities burn, don't focus on the rioting but instead, focus on the reason 𝙬𝙝𝙮 they are.⠀ ⠀ Enough is enough.⠀ ⠀ My black friends, colleagues & community, I stand with you.

⚡DOUBLE TAP if you got OUTSIDE this WEEKEND!⚡🙋🏽‍♀️⠀ ⠀ We got out there, enjoyed the sun and even relished in the rain we had too.⠀ ⠀ Anyone else just love the smell and sound of rain? 🌧⠀ ⠀ We even had a little excitement in our neighbourhood with a huge raccoon walking around in broad daylight. Apparently it's the season for rabies but, it got sorted. 😬🦝⠀ ⠀ I even treated myself to some goodies from a local boutique. Then we took a drive out to the county to pick up some plants for the house and the girls got little succulents. ⠀ ⠀ Other than that, we BBQ'd some good eats and had a bonfire. ⠀ ⠀ It's been a joy to start seeing some warm weather. There's nothing like getting outside, getting dirty, and just being a kid.⠀ ⠀ Thank goodness for the trampoline though--we always have some good times on it! Being home has given me more time to do more thing

Being home has given me more time to do more things that I enjoy. Give yourself a little grace...💕⠀ ⠀ This little face is one of the best parts of waking up every morning. It's one of the biggest blessings of being home. ⠀ ⠀ I'll be honest. I've maintained my composure as much as possible since this all began. ⠀ ⠀ But, it's overwhelming.⠀ ⠀ With distance learning (it's not easy), attempting to keep the kids entertained, trying to avoid placing misplaced feelings and keeping some sense of normalcy is tough. 🤦🏽‍♀️⠀ ⠀ It's easy to find guilt in all of it too.⠀ ⠀ We try to find the positives in everything that is happening. My dear husband always reminds me to take it one day at a time. ⠀ ⠀ Seriously, he and Gabby are my rocks and they keep me grounded.⠀ ⠀ I've been doing my best, though sometimes I feel I should try harder. It's that little voice that I'm working to ignore. ⠀ ⠀ I'm actively trying to give the kids a little bit of grace and myself some too. ⠀ ⠀ We need it. ⠀ ⠀ I am shifting my focus and I am grateful for great teachers who genuinely care.⠀ ⠀ While, yes, schooling is important, I am going to focus on making happy memories. 'Life is a balance of holding on & letting go.' ✨⠀ ⠀ So, I'm having the daggone cookie, periodt.⠀ ⠀ Over the last year, I've been able to find balance and it's been a godsend. ⚡Quarantine haircuts? 💇🏽‍♀️💈⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ➡SWIPE TO SEE MINE➡⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Well, here's the truth. I've been cutting my husband's hair for years. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ For myself, on the other hand, I've never attempted it until, well, now. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ My ends were split and I needed a trim before quarantine happened so, a couple of YouTube videos later and with scissors in hand, I snipped away. ✂😲⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Mind you, I was pretty conservative in how much I snipped off, I'd say about an inch or so. I still need to trim more off but, it's slightly uneven (or a lot 🤣) and I'm gonna need my stylist to fix it and cut the rest off. ⠀ ⠀⠀ But, hey... Carole Baskins made me do it! 👩🏽🐅⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Oddly enough, today is National Hairstylists Appreciation Day and I'm definitely missing her skills right now. ⠀ ⠀ My roots though.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ It's not as bad but, I don't think I'll be trying it again. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Luckily, my husband still has his stylist through this quarantine. 'To do what nobody else will do in a way that nobody else can.' 👩🏽‍⚕️💙⠀ ⠀ The girls, Darasak & I want to take time to thank my sister @susana_p and all the amazing staff she works with for being healthcare heroes. ⠀ ⠀ I had the honour to work with my sister for many years in long-term care. I can say that she is incredibly compassionate, caring, and treats anyone that is placed under her care with warmth and empathy.⠀ ⠀ The team at her workplace is doing their best and I know firsthand they are great at what they do.⠀ ⠀ Despite LTC being understaffed and underfunded, they go to work every day to take care of our most vulnerable. ⠀ ⠀ We haven't been able to see her since this all began and we miss her terribly. She is like my girls' second mom and it's a loss we feel every day. Just like we miss my brother and parents too. 💙⠀ ⠀ A big thank you goes out to Katie, an amazing nurse who works with her for giving my girls the chance to thank their aunt.
