5 Tips to Create the Perfect Accent Wall

With the pandemic keeping us all at home, 2020/21 has seen an incredible surge in home décor DIY.

People have had more time to get the paintbrushes out and there has been a rise in Instagram and Pinterest accounts offering stunning interior inspiration.

Accent walls are one of the year’s hottest trends, with designers, social influencers, and interior magazines jumping on the trend and showcasing their creations.

Check out our tips below for creating your own wall of dreams!

Rustic Ready

Natural wood is all the rage this year and translating the trend to your walls is a great way of combining two crazes in one.

A classic maple or pine wood accent wall gives a room rustic charm – pair with slightly distressed furniture for a shabby chic look.

You could even upcycle some of your existing pieces to compliment the walls. If the farmhouse look is not your style, opt for a contemporary vibe with sleek white wood and streamlined furniture.

Maximalism Meets Modernity

In the words of an eye-rolling Miranda Priestly, ‘Florals for Spring? Ground-breaking.’ However, Miranda’s opinion can be left in the past with the upturn in loud and proud wallpapers.

Flowery papers are huge this year, as are bold geometric prints.

If you’re afraid to take the plunge permanently, stick-on wallpaper is a great option. If you tire of the print, you can peel it right off and replace it with whatever takes your fancy!

Passion for Paneling

Social media has been littered with people creating their own paneled walls. Reminiscent of old libraries and stately homes. Paneling offers style and panache to an otherwise boring wall.

It may look a little difficult but all you’ll need is a saw, some good quality wood glue, and the will.

If you’re feeling brave, fill the paneled areas with funky wallpaper or a different colour. If you’d like something a little more subtle, stick to painting it the same colour as the wall to keep it simple.

Print Perfection

If you’re looking to jazz up a wall but don’t want to commit to a whole redecorating project, try creating a wall of quirky prints to add interest to a room.

Stick with neutral colour prints in black frames to create a drama and keep a monochromatic feel. If you’re looking to bring about a little more vivacity to your space, then choose bright or neon prints that will make a statement.

Think Andy Warhol-esque adorned walls with clashing colours and patterns.

Mural Madness

If you’re a fan of large art pieces a mural wall will be perfect for you. There are thousands of designs out there for you to choose from. Including woodland scenes, fields of flowers, or classic de Gournay styles.

If you’re feeling a little extra, you can even have your own custom design made up to wow any visitors.
