Kitchen Counter Decor Ideas

If you’re like most people, your kitchen counter is probably the least of your priorities when it comes to sprucing up your home.

After all, a kitchen countertop is functional, serving as the main area for food preparation and storage for small appliances like coffeemakers, toaster ovens, and microwaves.

So why should you spend a lot of energy to make it more appealing and less cluttered?

According to experts, you should always take time to make your kitchen countertop presentable. Especially since it’s one of the first things that guests notice when they walk into your cooking space. “A cluttered countertop can stand out for all the wrong reasons,” says interior designer Danielle Chiprut in a recent interview with The Spruce.

The designer suggests incorporating hidden storage solutions to keep clutter contained in the kitchen.

But apart from keeping it neatly organized, there are other ways to make your countertops look aesthetically appealing.

Here are some kitchen counter decor ideas for a stylish and curated look.

Stick to a Color Scheme Instead of a Theme

If you’re old enough to remember the 90s, at some point during that decade you probably had a kitchen decorated with a theme in mind.

Perhaps you had an apple-themed kitchen, complete with apple-printed dish towels, dishes, and mugs, and maybe a few fake apples on the countertops.

Or maybe you had a duck-themed kitchen featuring white ducks with blue ribbons and bonnets on everything.

Having a theme can certainly give your kitchen and countertops a quirky feel. This also gives your space a tacky and dated look.

Instead of a theme, think about following a color scheme to decorate your countertops.

Once you’ve contained all your small appliances in hidden storage, think about styling this area using only two colors.

For instance, white works well with the color of natural wood. Think about using a single white frame to display a print or artwork, then place it beside a white utensil holder filled with wooden utensils.

Add a touch of nature to your countertop with a slim wooden vase filled with fresh or faux white orchids.

Decorate in Threes

If you have limited space on your countertop, decorate with no more than three objects. Pick items that will give maximum impact.

For example, you can lean a vintage style, poster-sized mirror with a rose gold frame on the wall behind your counter. Then place a large, rose gold or salmon colored vase in front of it.

Fill the vase with peach-colored blooms, then place a peach or rose gold teapot beside it.

Encourage Healthy Eating with Your Decor

For those who’d like to eat better, why not decorate your kitchen counter to encourage healthy eating habits?

Place a wicker basket on your countertop, then fill it with citrus fruits. Like lemons, oranges, and limes.

Add a tall glass bottle or container with a wooden cover and fill the bottle with trail mix or mixed nuts. Finish by placing a vintage style cutting board behind the basket and bottle.
