Netflix Canada: Getting Back to Basics for Back to School Season w/ Fun Titles. #StreamTeam
Back to Basics.
We are well into the school season, we even had our very first PA Day this Friday. Both my girls have gotten ready for another year of pencils and books, it’s a good time for kids starting or returning to school to brush up on some basic skills. While the summer months are fun, it can be hard for kids to get back in the swing of things when they re-enter into their school routines.
That’s why this month we’ve been watching some fun titles to help the kids get their thinking caps back in gear! For younger kids, back to school ABCs and 123s can be daunting, so we’ve selected titles focused on reading and math. For bigger kids it’s often social skills that become a source of anxiety, acceptance and doing the right thing, and other life lessons are important for kids finding their way in the world. Titles like Glee will help reinforce the building blocks of self-esteem and social skills. Now let’s get learning!
Social Skills.
1. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax
2. Ever After: A Cinderella Story
3. Glee
4. Radio
5. The Pursuit of Happyness
6. The Karate Kid
7. Turbo
8. Shrek
I am a total gleek, while I think the show is a bit too mature for my daughters, I think the show touches upon many social situations that teens face or will face as they reach high school. I think it would be a great way to open up conversation with your kids about things they encounter at school. We have watched Turbo, Shrek, The Pursuit of Happyness and The Lorax to discuss the social issues in all of them. One of our favorites is The Lorax.
Brushing Up On the Basics!
- Thomas & Friends: Thomas & His Friends Help Out
- Monster Math Squad
- Curious George
- Super Why!
- My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
- Signing Time
- Animal ABCs
- LeapFrog: Numbers Ahoy
Having my daughter starting school for the first time this month, I was anxious on how she would take to school. We brushed up on the basics and still continue to watch these awesome titles to help her as she learns. She had learned a lot in the years prior to entering school thanks to some of these shows. Now she still enjoys watching My Little Pony, Super Why! (which is awesome to learn ABC’s) and LeapFrog too.
