The Best Pupusas in Windsor: A Review of Victoria Latina Restaurant

A plate of opened pupusas mixtas sit on a plate, topped with curtido, and being poured over with salsa. This article covers the best pupusas in Windsor.

Best Pupusas in Windsor, ON?

If there is one dish that instantly tastes like home to me, it is a hot, fresh pupusa. Being Salvadoran, I admit that I am incredibly picky when it comes to finding the perfect one.

The masa has to be just right (not to thick), the cheese needs to have that perfect pull, the toppings needs to be plenty, and the curtido needs a bright, classic tang.

Let’s not forget, the salsa has to hit too.

While my recent look at El Milagro Restaurant holds a solid spot on the local scene, there is one place that completely steals the crown for me.

I told y’all, I wasn’t going to gatekeep.

If you want to know exactly where to find the absolute best pupusas in Windsor, you need to head straight over to Victoria Latina Restaurant.

Located on Wyandotte Street West, this family-run gem serves up scratch-made comfort food that hits the mark every single time.

Authentic Comfort Beyond the Pupusas

While the pupusas alone are worth the trip, the Victoria Latina Restaurant menu shines because it offers true Salvadoran comfort food that tastes like it came straight out of a family kitchen.

  • The Traditional Desayuno: For anyone who grew up on authentic Latin American cooking, the Desayuno Tipico Salvadoreño is pure nostalgia on a plate. It is exactly what you crave when you miss a homemade breakfast from mom. The plate comes loaded with perfectly scrambled eggs cooked with tomatoes and onions, rich refried red beans, sweet fried plantains, fresh avocado, thick Salvadoran cream, and handmade corn tortillas.
  • The Pupusa Lineup: They hand-pat every single order, and their selection of vegetable and cheese fillings is outstanding. Instead of just sticking to plain cheese, you can explore traditional options like Loroco con Queso (stuffed with the unique, herbal flower buds native to El Salvador) alongside savory Zucchini y Queso (calabacita) and Jalapeño y Queso for a nice kick. They even have a massive, extra-large version called “Pupusa la Loca” if you are feeling seriously hungry.
  • Regional Specialities: If you are dining with a crowd, their kitchen also stretches beautifully across Latin America, turning out crispy Venezuelan empanadas, hearty birria tacos, loaded patacones, and a massive coastal seafood Jalea platter.

To wash it all down, you can order an imported Jarritos or a cold glass of their homemade horchata.

I order their pupusas mixtas because I like frijoles (beans) along with my chicharron and cheese. I also order the desayuno.

Especially when I miss my mom’s desayuno, and don’t want to bother her. It really is comfort on a plate when you’re missing your mamá’s cooking.

Whenever that craving hits, this is my absolute go-to destination. I really do wish we had more Salvadoran spots in the area, especially for traditional pan dulces since I always find myself missing torta María Luisa with poleada, peperechas, and semita.

But until we get a bakery, Victoria Latina completely satisfies the craving for home.

You can dine in or take-out, I often call ahead (you can order online too) and pick up some pupusas and enjoy them at home. They are great for having your order warm and ready to go!
