Where to Eat Pupusas and Tacos in Windsor, ON?

If you are looking to spice up your dining scene in Windsor, Ontario, or if you are just visiting and wondering where to find a solid spot for Salvadoran and Mexican comfort food, you are in luck.

Windsor has an incredible, evolving food culture, but finding authentic Latin American street food can still feel like a bit of a hunt.

While it faces some stiff competition and lands at a solid third place on my personal list for the city, the food is undeniably delicious and well worth a visit.

Discovering a local, family-run spot that gets the flavors right is always a win.

Step into Latin Restaurant El Milagro, a cozy eatery that brings the bold, traditional flavors of Latin America straight to your plate.

Nestled right in the heart of the city on Erie Street East, El Milagro lives up to its name, which translates to “The Miracle.”

While they are known for classic Mexican street tacos and rich pupusas, their menu goes far beyond that with comforting Salvadoran tamales, crispy empanadas, hearty soups, seafood dishes, and savory Venezuelan arepas.

It is a true hot spot for authentic, scratch-made Latin flavors.

The kitchen serves up dishes so flavorful and comforting that they truly feel like a gift to the local food scene.

Whether you are craving classic Mexican street tacos, rich pupusas, or a steaming bowl of birria ramen, this spot serves up the real deal.

The atmosphere is consistently warm, vibrant, and welcoming, filled with great music and incredible hospitality.

So, where to eat pupusas and tacos in Windsor? Wonder no more!

Check out our video about our experience, and all the delicious food we tried. I did order a side of plantains, and they were kind and accomodating to serve it.

They usually come as a side on other main dishes.

The menu highlights traditional Salvadoran dishes and Mexican favorites, alongside unique coastal seafood options like fresh ceviche, crispy fish platters, and shrimp tacos.

You will also find incredible South American specialties like Venezuelan arepas and patacones, which are crispy, deep-fried flattened green plantains loaded with savory meats, cheese, and garlic sauce.

You really cannot go wrong with anything you order, but these are the specific dishes we tried and highly recommend.

Horchata: A sweet, refreshing milky beverage made from rice and morro seeds, beautifully flavored with cinnamon and sugar.

Platanos with Crema: Perfectly fried sweet plantains served with rich sour cream.

Pupusas Mixtas: Thick, hand-patted griddle corn tortillas stuffed to the brim with melted cheese, seasoned pork, and beans. They are served with curtido, a crunchy, tangy pickled cabbage slaw, and homemade salsa. They have 7 different types to choose from, these just happen to be my favorite.

Ramen Birria and Beef Tacos: A genius fusion dish featuring tender, slow-cooked marinated beef, melted cheese, cilantro, and onions, served with a rich savory consommรฉ for dipping.

Dessert Options: If you have room for dessert, you can order a slice of ultra-moist Tres Leches cake, traditional flan, or a slice of Salvadoran Quesadilla, which is a rich, cheese-flavored sweet pound bread.

The pupusas are delicious, I like a little more bite in my chicharron but they are super tasty.

Gabby enjoyed the ramen and birria fusion, and honestly, my go-to from now on would be the birria tacos from here.

They are REALLY good!

If it is your very first time visiting and you want the ultimate crowd-pleasers, stick to these three popular choices:

  1. Tacos de Birria: Three double-layered, slightly crispy corn tortillas loaded with juicy beef stew, served with a side of rice and beans.
  2. Pupusas: A traditional Salvadoran specialty. You can order them with just cheese, beans and cheese, or the full mixed variety.
  3. Churros with Dulce de Leche: Golden, ridged sticks of deep-fried choux pastry dough coated in cinnamon sugar for the perfect sweet finish.
