Have an EPIC Staycation.
Who doesn’t want to get on a plane and jet off to somewhere tropical? I think almost everyone has desired that at some point. Traveling isn’t for everyone, in fact, some people prefer to stay close to home when they’ve earned some time off. For those like me who absolutely love to travel, sometimes plans do not work out. Whichever type of person you are, you have the ability to make your staycation as EPIC as any exotic getaway. The following tips can help you do just that and you’ll return to work and “real-life” re-energized!
1. Get Unplugged.
One of the most important things is to get off the grid completely. Make sure you take care of anything you need to for work before your vacation, that way you can walk away for a week of fun. You know that itch you get to check your emails? Add an automatic reply and let people know you will be unavailable and that you’ll get back to them. They will be there when you get back! Limit your internet time and your phone time, unless you are sharing your staycation with the world. Or skip it altogether–you choose!
2. Break Out of Your Routine.
If you are staying close to home, make sure you shake things up. Go to places you don’t usually go, sleep in or wake-up early to do something you never get the chance to do. The thing about vacations is the opportunity to break the monotony of a routine.
3. Plan an Indoor Excursion.
Take a look in your city, there’s often a lot of things to do. You can take a trip to a museum, gallery or science centre. Sometimes there are some really amazing things to see or do within driving distance. Close enough to home but, far enough to be new. Whatever your interest may be – from antiques and art to science and nature – there is an exhibit for you.
4. Get Outside.
The weather is starting to warm up and we’ve been gifted with some really gorgeous days as of late. Go for a walk, a skate at a local rink and maybe pop into a coffee shop with a good book and enjoy a delicious drink. There is nothing like some fresh air and a bit of sunshine to help you relax.
5. Go Skiing or Boarding!
Maybe you haven’t been as lucky to have warmer weather. There’s still a chance to take a day, or two, to hit the slopes with your family; you can ski, snowboard, snow tube or hike, the options are endless. I know that my fam jam absolutely love to hit the slopes and I love to hit the hot tub and spas!

7. Take a Local Food Tour or Brewery Tour.
If you’re a foodie, there’s never a bad time to take a food tour or a walk through a brewery. It’s a great time to taste new foods, delight in favorites and sample different wine or spirits. Vacations are all about indulgence, right? It never hurts anyone once in a while anyway. So, find a tour close to home and enjoy!
8. Pamper Yo-Self!
Invite your girl friends over and get ready to hit the town. Catch a movie, concert or go dancing.
