Visit these grand attractions in Faro.

The city of Faro is one of the most popular destinations in the whole of Portugal and boasts its own international airport. Flights to Faro are some of the most convenient and reliable in all of Europe. Here are some of the things that are just waiting to be discovered on a holiday to Faro. I know that Portugal is definitely on my bucket-list and these are destinations that would be on my itinerary.

Centro Historico

This area is also known as the Old City and is home to a number of enchanting historical buildings. Visitors will want to make sure that the venture inside Faro’s enormous cathedral, which dates back to the 13th century. Also nearby is the enchanting Episcopal Palace, which was built in the 18th century.

Praia de Faro

Sun worshippers are sure to enjoy soaking up the sun on this beautiful beach, which stretches along the coast for several kilometres. Praia de Faro attracts visitors all year round with its golden sand and clear waters and is lined with a good range of amenities such as cafes and beachside stalls. This part of the world is famous for its year round sunshine, which is just waiting to be enjoyed by visitors to Faro.

Faro Jewish Heritage Centre

This interesting museum is the perfect place to discover the intricate culture of Faro. The heritage centre was established back in 1851 and is home to a collection of more than a hundred graves that serve as the final resting places for members of the old Jewish community. The Faro Jewish Heritage Centre also houses a museum where a large collection of artefacts such as furniture from the old synagogue and Hebrew scripts can be admired.

Loulé

People who have a little extra time to spend can take a daytrip to the historic market town of Loulé, which is located just 16 kilometres northwest of Faro. One of the most striking larndmarks here is the Morrish castle, and visitors can wander along the castle walls and climb the remnants of the turrets to take in striking views of the town.

Faro is also the perfect place to sample traditional Portuguese cuisine. The city boasts a large number of high end restaurants where visitors can sample traditional cuisine from the Algarve region of Portugal in style. The city’s local markets are also great places to sample fresh local produce such as cheese, bread and freshly caught seafood.
