Treats for Toys.

The holidays are upon us and I think of the best parts of the season is the gift of giving. It is one of my most favorite things to do during Christmas. There’s nothing like seeing the joy on your loved ones faces when they get THE perfect gift. But, to me, there’s nothing like knowing you’ve helped someone in need during the holiday season. Even if you may never cross paths, just knowing that you made someone smile feels great.

Make a Difference.

When Kellogg’s introduced me to the Treats for Toys Program, I was more than happy to take part. It is a great program that will put smiles on kids’ faces all across the nation.

Taking Part is Easy as 1 – 2 – 3

First,  make a toy-shaped treat using Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal. You can get ideas by going to RiceKrispies.ca. Then, take a picture of your treat using a digital camera or smartphone. Lastly, upload your picture to RiceKrispies.ca. It’s that simple! For every original photo of a treat uploaded to RiceKrispies.ca, Kellogg will make a donation of $20 to The Salvation Army, up to a maximum of $30,000. The Salvation Army will use this donation to buy toys for children in need across Canada this holiday season.

Give Back!

We were so happy to make a creation of our own, we were given the Robot design. My husband and I explained to the girls that by participating in the Treats for Toys Program, that we would be helping a child in need. Not to mention, that it is so important to give back not only during the holidays but, whenever you can.

Gabs helped my husband make the delicious Rice Krispie Treats and they began to mold our robot. As always, it’s a simple as A-B-C, all you need is Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows, butter or margarine and vanilla extract.

Get Creative!

We had so much fun making our Robot, Kellogg’s sent us tons of goodies to decorate him with. Not only was he going to be a trendy robot but, a tasty one too.

The kids loved helping add the frosting to stick the candy onto him. Hubby helped cut and shape the robot and the girls helped rolling some parts of his body. It was fun, easy and we got everyone involved.

And Wally is Born!

We took out our camera and took pictures of Wally. He turned out pretty spiffy. I added a little color with the piping and then we let the girls go to town on the frosting after.

They said he need a “sweet” makeover before we had a treat. So, you can imagine that the girls’ favorite part was smothering the frosting and having a piece of poor Wally.

Spend Time!

But, nothing is more sweet than spending time with your family and helping to make someone’s day a little brighter. This program is definitely one that you’d want to be involved in. After all, it’s super easy to get the ingredients and even easier to upload your creation to RiceKrispies.ca!

Plus, you get to spend time as a family and enjoy tasty treats!

How do you and your family choose to give back during the holidays?

Let me know, til then–cheers m’deres!

  1. This is a really great initiative that I had no idea about. We give back by bringing donations to a couple women's shelters annually, but this is a nice, simple yet meaningful way to add to that.

  2. I love making "Rice Krispy sculpture!" A Robot is one I've never thought of. Hmm. Maybe that'll be the next creation.
