The World’s Most Beautiful Watersports Destinations

The world is full of breathtaking destinations for watersports enthusiasts, offering unique landscapes and unforgettable experiences.

Read on to discover the top spots where nature and adventure collide. Each destination boasts its own beauty, culture, and thrilling watersports opportunities.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is home to some of the world’s most stunning oceans. The famous waves of Salsa Brava, Tamarindo Beach, and Playa Grande make Costa Rica a popular surfing destination.

The country’s waves are also ideal for other watersports like wakeboarding, wake surfing, and waterskiing.

Costa Rica’s most beautiful spots including Lake Arenal offer the perfect chance to embrace Latin America’s sun, nature, and wildlife. Check out volcano.cr to explore Costa Rica’s crystal blue waters and enjoy some watersports adventures.

We recommend wakeboarding as a beginner-friendly watersport. Your feet are secured to a board as you hold onto a rope attached to a boat. You can decide how fast or slow the boat goes and ask to practice particular movements.

Wakeboarding is a great option for those new to watersports.

The crystal blue waters of Costa Rica play host to scenic water-skiing trips. Its vibrant seas, teeming with tropical fish, make for memorable scuba diving and snorkeling experiences.

Turkey

The French word for Turkish gives us “turquoise,” and Turkey’s Turquoise Coast boasts many of the country’s beautiful beaches.

These beaches, including Oludeniz and Iztuzu, are surrounded by almond and olive trees and often close to amazing wildlife. Iztuzu beach, sometimes known as “Turtle Beach”, is home to loggerhead sea turtles and offers incredible golden sands and crystal clear water.

The Black Sea, the world’s largest inland body of water, stretching across six countries – including Turkey – is a perhaps surprising surfing location.

Deniz Toprak, a Turkish surfer, told Surfline, “I have witnessed how surfing can change a whole village and especially how it can have a positive impact on young people. People become more interested in nature, more protective, more responsible. I can see this happening in Turkey and for the entire Black Sea coast as well.”

Another surfer, Kadir Tolga Uçal, said, “Actual surfing is new to Turkey but windsurfing and kite surfing have been here for a while. This perspective of ‘there are no waves in Turkey’ has started to change with new surf schools and dedicated surfers who are actually scoring all along the Black Sea.”

Iceland

When some people hear of Iceland, they immediately think of the country’s most famous export, the singer and musician Bjork. She once said, “Nature has always been important to me. It has always been in my music.”

Iceland is jam-packed with some of nature’s most extraordinary sights. The country is full of waterfalls, black and white sand beaches, lava fields, and volcanoes.

Last but not least, some beautiful coastlines.

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is full of fishing villages, and its volcano is seen as one of the symbols of Iceland.

Surfing veterans Ólafur Pálsson and Atli Guðbrandsson have talked about Iceland as an intriguing surfing destination. Although the waters are cold, Guðbrandsson also calls the country “beautiful” – but “unpredictable”.

Pálsson notes the challenge in trying to predict the waves and says that travelling surfers “need to spend time surfing the local breaks and study the different weather patterns.”

Costa Rica, Turkey, and Iceland stand out as three of the world’s most beautiful watersports destinations. Each offering unique and captivating experiences.
