Best Ways to Prepare Your House for Allergy Season

Allergies can seriously affect the quality of your life. It is difficult to sleep when you have serious allergies and this starts a downward spiral.

There is pollen in the air, dust in the house, and even mold floating around that all cause problems. You can certainly get prescriptions from the doctor to help alleviate the symptoms of allergies.

However, getting the house ready for allergy season will help tremendously.

If you were already thinking of doing a deep spring cleaning then take the opportunity to make some changes around the house to deal with allergies.

In this article, we will go over some of the ways that you can prepare your house.

1. Get Air Filters

The air outside is full of allergens but there is infinite space and wind to blow it away. In your house, the particles get trapped with nowhere to go.

It happens to many people that their allergies don’t cause too many problems until they get back home.

This is why it is important for you to have a few air purifiers in the house to keep the air clean. Your home should be your safe haven so making sure that the air is clean is very important.

If you don’t know what exactly is causing the allergies, then having a powerful HEPA filter will work to remove even the tiniest microns of allergens.

An air purifier for mold is also essential since houses can often have mold lurking in the damp places in the home.

2. Clean the Ducts

Sometimes it’s your house that is causing your allergies to be worse. Your HVAC system can be the culprit.

It may be spreading pollen and mold that has collected within the house and spreading it around.

Many particles end up collecting in the filters and ducts. Things like dust mites, mold, pollen, and other allergens collect, and then there is no way to get any relief.

Make sure to call in an HVAC specialist to come and clean and maintain the system so it is not exacerbating your allergies.

3. Have the Carpets Cleaned

Carpets are repositories for many different allergens. Dust mites collect there and even dead skin particles.

If you have pets, it’s even worse as you have their pet dander accumulating there. When you walk around all of these allergens get kicked back up into the air.

Having your carpets steam cleaned will do a world of good to remove even the most deep-down particles.

Vacuuming your carpet is usually not enough to get rid of these things. There are some vacuums with high suction that are able to get deep into the fabric of the carpet and have HEPA filters to keep the air clean.

But at the very bottom of the carpet where the weave is often left alone by even the most effective vacuums.

Steam cleaning is the only way to have them deep cleaned enough to be able to reduce your allergies.

You can send carpets out to be cleaned, but usually, a cleaner comes to the house. Especially if you have wall-to-wall carpeting.
