Things to Do to Look and Feel Great All Year!
They don’t say that ‘it’s the most wonderful time of year’ for nothing. While we look forward to taking time off and indulging during the holidays, there is no denying that they can do a number on your body and daily routine.
After too many holiday treats or late-nights catching up with friends and family at holiday gatherings, this non-12 step program can help you and the good news is that it’s relatively easy to get back on track. January is the perfect time to commit to new habits to help you look and feel great and you can make a big difference by changing just a few simple things!
Eat the Colours of the Rainbow
According to Lifehacker, the colour of different foods can tell you a whole lot about the nutritional value and eating a variety of colors is one sure fire way to know you are getting as many of those vitamins and minerals as possible. Some colors of food indicate an abundance of specific nutrients.
Yellow and orange fruits and vegetables (citrus fruits, gourds, for example) are abundant in vitamins C and A. Green fruits and veggies (kale, spinach, asparagus, avocado) are high in vitamins K, B, and E. Purple produce on the other hand (eggplant, red cabbage, grapes) are high in vitamins C and K. The reason you can tell these from looking is because plants often derive their colors from various phytochemicals found in them. Now, you know what it means to eat the rainbow!
One of the simplest fixes you can make to your beauty routine is to swap out pop for water. Experts say drinking water can help prevent dehydration-induced wrinkles.
TIP: Try setting reminders in your calendar to fill up your glass with water every couple hours. Give it a couple weeks, and it will become routine!
Don’t Crank Up the Heat
Getting in the shower during the cold months can lead to temptation of cranking up the hot water. Heck, I even like it during the warm months. But, opt for lukewarm water to lock in moisture. Using hot water and then going out in cool weather can dry out your skin.
Silky smooth skin is the first step in a beauty routine. This is something that has grown in importance for me, especially with the fact that I am not getting any younger. Your skin needs hydration all year round, especially during winter.
The Dermal Therapy line of moisturizers helps restore your skin’s moisture with elements similar to those found naturally in healthy skin. Don’t forget the elbows, we often neglect them!
TIP: Make it part of your shower routine to moisturize. After a hectic day, the shower may feel like a relaxing oasis. Extend that feeling by taking the time to moisturize after each shower.
Keep Those Teeth Pearly White
Our dental health is so important and the more we keep up with it, the better. That means keeping up with dental appointments and brushing and flossing regularly.
Get enough sleep
If you get less than six hours sleep, it’s likely affecting your appearance and you may notice wrinkles, dark circles or puffy eyes. It even changes your facial expressions; you tend to furrow your brow and frown more when you’re tired.
TIP: Set an alarm for bed time. You set an alarm to get out of bed in the morning. Use the same approach to make sure you get to bed early enough at night!
Enjoy more good hair days
While in the winter you can hide under toques and scarves, January is the time to start thinking about your spring hair. When the weather warms up your mane will be on full display. You should take steps now to be ready. PRIORIN® is a supplement that supplies the hair with millet extract, the amino acid L-cystine and calcium pantothenate, which in combination has been clinically shown to promote hair growth and hair re-growth. PRIORIN® also contains the nutrient biotin, which helps to maintain healthy hair. Take 2 capsules daily with food for 3-6 months.
TIP: Make it a part of your breakfast or lunch routine so you remember to take supplements daily.
Whether or not you made a resolution that you want to keep this year or not, these are simple ways that you can make a difference in your everyday life!
What do you do to look and feel great in the New Year?
Let me know, til then–cheers m’deres!
