When you have a dream job in mind, it’s always going to be important for you to be able to go after it with as much gravitas as you can. Whether you’ve been working your way up to a certain position or you’re moving field and just starting out in your ideal path, you’re going to want to stand out.

In my lifetime, I’ve been through my fair share of interviews. I know how it important it is to be yourself, be humble, yet let your achievements shine. After all, if you’re like me, and have a family to think about. Then again, we all have responsibilities so, securing a job is a must!

If you have the same skills, knowledge, and experience as another candidate, your resumes will be identical! This can mean that it’s incredibly hard for employers to choose. When you’re going out for your dream job, you want to be the obvious choice. For that to happen, you need to stand out as being perfect for the job.

Let’s take a look at how you can do that.

Be Different

To start with, you just need to make sure that you’re different from the rest. Do not just be one of the many with all of the same experiences. Instead, you need to be different. No matter what you’re doing, just try your best to be better. Go above and beyond. To be really passionate about your field and make it show.

Be More Qualified

From here, you’re going to want to look at how your professional suitability to the role can help you. Something that can work in your favor is to have the best qualifications for the role. Another would be to have the highest you can get in your field. You might want to take a look at an accredited online MBA program or a vocational course related to what you’re doing. This is definitely going to help you to stand out.

Have Relevant Experience

You need to ensure that the experience you do have is relevant. If you’ve got experience that is expertly tailored to the role, it’s going to showcase you as a perfect candidate. So whenever you’re going out for a job, ensure that you really do tailor what you do and what you know to the role.

Have Personality

Some experts will tell you not to do this. They’ll say that you need to be professional – and you do. But you also need personality. You need to know why a company should hire you, and what you bring to the table. Especially if there are a bunch of other candidates being interviewed. If they are all the same as you, showing off your personality a little can help you to stand out.

Show, Don’t Say

Finally, when it comes to selling yourself either in an interview or in your resume, you’re going to want to demonstrate as much as you can. Don’t just talk about what you’ve done or what you can do, showcase it. This is where your professional portfolio comes in. You can show off work that you’ve done. When it comes to showing off any results that you’ve gotten, you need to make sure that you’re adding statistics to your resume and portfolio to demonstrate this.
