Nail Tutorial: OPI’s Euro Centrale & Modern Family Tape Mani! #tutorial

OPI-10

Be Retro Yet Fabulously Modern with This Tape Mani!

I am happy to share that Whispered Inspirations has an official nail artist, Susana, who will be sharing swatches, looks and tutorials for all of you to be inspired!

She achieved this particular look by using OPI’s Suzi’s Hungary Again from the Euro Centrale Collection, Stand By Your Manny and Alex by the Book from the Modern Family Collection. What I love about this look is that it’s somehow nostalgic, modern yet retro.

Things You Will Need:

  • OPI Suzi’s Hungary Again (Euro Centrale Collection)
  • OPI Stand by Your Manny (Modern Family Collection)
  • OPI Alex by the Book (Modern Family Collection)
  • Your favorite base coat.
  • Your favorite top coat.
  • Silver nail tape.
  • Clear tape. (Scotch Tape)

Time: 15-30 mins

Difficulty: Easy

Let’s Get Started!

OPI-02

Prep, Apply Base and Polish!

Begin with pushing back your cuticles or trimming them, if needed. File your nails to your desired shape and then apply your favorite base coat. When ready, apply two coats of OPI Suzi’s Hungary Again from the Euro Centrale Collection.

OPI-03

Tape It!

Take a small piece of tape and before applying to nail, press against skin to remove most of the glue from the tape. Apply the tape in a diagonal manner, make-shifting a triangle, leaving the rest of the nail covered by the tape.

OPI-04

You’re On Your Way!

Prepare your entire hand this way, make sure you are pressing the tape against your skin. If you do not do this, you risk peeling or damaging your nail polish coats.

OPI-06

Do It By the Book!

Apply two coats of Alex By the Book from the Modern Family Collection. Wait until polish is completely dry before you attempt to remove the tape.

OPI-07

Wait and Remove.

Make sure whenever you apply polish and tape to wait until it is completely DRY when you remove it. If you remove too early, you risk blotting or both colors running into each other, which is a big mess you’d want to avoid!

OPI-08

Criss Cross or Triangle!

When the first triangle has dried, you can follow that triangle to make a criss cross to make a triangle in the middle of your nail. When you are applying tape, you can alternate placing tape at the bottom to make a triangle and the top to make a triangle–every other nail. As you can see in the picture, the colors are alternated. The third color in this look is Stand By Your Manny from the Modern Family Collection. Depending on the pattern you have chosen, you may have to criss cross to achieve 3 different colored triangles.

OPI-12

Add Shimmer.

Once your nails are finished they will look like the picture above, in order to complete the design and have a clean finished look, you will need to add nail tape to the design.  The above nail tape is a silver color and can be purchased online or your local nail polish store.

OPI-11

Dazzle and Make it Shine!

As in regular tape you pull the the tape and cut small pieces long enough to cover each separation of your triangle design. It really is very easy!  Once your nail tape is applied make sure to clean up any excess nail polish that may be around the cuticles and add your favorite shiny top coat.

That’s it!

Now you are ready to rock with your RETRO FAB manicure!

    1. It actually takes between 15-30 minutes to do! OPI is the best lacquer I\’ve ever used. It lasts a long time. It also depends on how often you use your hands. I wear gloves for my work and it lasts longer than a week which with regular nail polish would last me one day.
