The Secret to Clear Skin is Easier Than You Think

A teenager is holding the control to the Neutrogena Light Mask as she wears it on her head and sits on her bed.

The Secret to Clear Skin

Acne can be a formidable enemy and if you are having difficulty getting yours under control, then you may need to change how you are caring for your skin. Knowing how to get rid of spots on your skin is one of the secrets to having flawless skin at all times.

I know that life is busy, so I am definitely not going to tell you that you need to spend hours in your bathroom or to visit your doctor numerous times to clear up your acne. Instead, I’ve compiled a few ways that can help you to prevent acne and with a good routine and $50 bucks–you can be on your way to clear skin.

I have combination and super sensitive skin. At times, it can be really dry and to compensate, my skin makes extra oil. Then, I tend to break out and it’s definitely not fun.

My daughter is a teenager and she has just started to notice a change in her skin too.

Especially when she plays sports and sweats a lot.

So, we both were on a mission to getting better skin. I teamed up with NEUTROGENA® to compose a small list of simple changes you can make to your routine to achieve clear skin!

Keep It Clean

I know that may sound simple but, maintaining a routine can be difficult. Keeping your skin clean is an important step to preventing acne from popping up.

You will want to choose a cleanser that matches your skin type and then make a plan and habit to use it. Especially at night to wash away the dirt and sweat from your day.

TIP: You can use a facial brush to help de-clog your pores, degrease your skin and get rid of excess dirt or bacteria.

For times when washing my face isn’t possible, I use oil-free cleansing wipes. That way, I can remove my makeup or just clean my face.

Use Light Therapy

Neutrogena has multiple innovative products that can help you keep your skin clear and healthy. One that can help you the most with acne is their new light therapy acne mask. The mask harnesses the power of light to treat mild to moderate acne.

The Light Therapy Acne Mask is an innovative LED device that treats the face in just one step, sending therapeutic red and blue wavelengths into the skin at the speed of light.

This dual-action approach helps disrupt the acne cycle and delivers clearer, healthier skin. The red light reduces inflammation, while the blue light targets acne-causing bacteria.

It fits over your face and is designed to work in short ten-minute sessions. The best time to use this mask is right after you have washed your face with a cleanser.

Once you place the mask on your face, the red and blue LED lights work to disrupt the acne cycle of your body.

The red lights instantly reduce inflammation, while the blue lights quickly kill the bacteria that causes acne.

TIP: Each mask can be used for thirty sessions and then you can request a pre-paid shipping label to send the mask back for recycling. Imagine, clear and healthy skin without cluttering up the environment!

These steps can help reduce the amount of acne that you have. Plus, it can prevent you from breaking out as much in the future. Lowering your acne breakouts does not need to take a lot of time.

You can spend as little as 20 minutes a day washing your face, using light therapy, and applying sunscreen.

Those minutes are priceless when it comes to the healthy and clear skin that you will enjoy every day for the rest of your life.

Our thoughts

What I love about the mask is that I no longer have to go to the spa and get a chemical peel and avoid the sun to get clear and supple skin. The mask can be used every single day and doesn’t require any harsh chemicals, oils, fragrances or creams–just light. It’s a 100% light-based solution.

Is it safe?

That was one of my concerns, especially since not only I would be using the light but, my young daughter too. It is gentle and doesn’t emit hot UV wavelengths of light. Plus, it does so in controlled doses.

How much does it cost?

The mask costs between $45.99-$49.99 and it comes with 30 sessions. After that, you can buy a replacement activator for $19.99-$21.99 and it includes 30 treatments.

Overall, I can say that my skin has been pretty clear and just the care that I’ve been giving it makes my skin feel radiant. I have noticed that the redness has gone away too.

I have sensitive skin and it’s a totally new way to fight acne while being gentle to the skin.

While I do love the convenience of light therapy at home, it’s quite funny to have it on.

Almost stormtrooper-esque but, luckily, it’s only for a small amount of time and the outcome is worth it.

What did my teen think of it?

In her words:

The Neutrogena Light Face Mask is awesome! I love it because it is super easy to do and quick. Not to mention as a teen, I can’t wait to get rid of the pimples I get easily and efficiently.

Why? Because nobody has time for that!

Seriously, I like a simple routine when it comes to keeping my skin clean.

What’s simpler than this mask, guys?

All you have to do is plug the cord in the remote, put the mask on your face, press the button, and boom! The mask is very light and I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. I just relaxed, went on my phone (not gonna lie, I took a few selfies), and before I knew it I was done.

For ten minutes a day to keep the pimples away, I can’t wait to use my face mask tomorrow!

Moisturize

After you’ve washed your face, make sure to apply oil-free, SPF moisturizer. I try to avoid oils in moisturizers and cleansers since they tend to cause breakouts.

But, you know your skin. Just choose what works best for you but, make sure you moisturize religiously.

The sun can damage your skin quickly and it can also cause you to look much older than you actually are.

Using sunscreen on your skin will help keep it looking healthy and that will make it easier for you to take care of.

Pick the Right Foundation

Now that you know how to quickly take care and prep your skin, you are ready to go about your day. If that means wearing makeup, make sure you start off with a good base.

Try to choose a foundation that is oil-free and contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid helps to unclog pores and by choosing a base makeup that won’t contribute to clogging your pores will help.

A great choice is Neutrogena’s SkinClearing foundation.

TIP: At the end of the day, make sure to kick-in your skincare routine and always wash your makeup off.

Lower Your Stress

Stress can wreak havoc on much of your body, if you really think about it.

You can probably remember how you notice more acne when you are completely stressed out.

Exercise, meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises can help you lower your stress levels. In turn, it can then lower your acne breakouts.

Plus, adding a ten-minute light therapy to your routine may make it easier. Since it attacks the causes of acne, it makes it a definite must to any beauty routine!
