3 Things to Consider Before Buying Window Blinds

Your window blinds are one of the most important parts of any room’s interior décor. They add layers of extra colour to a room, help control the lighting, and much more.

Finding the right blinds can be a lot of work. There are so many different types of blinds available, and they all have different uses.

So to take some of the stress of blinds shopping away, here are a few essential things for you to consider before making a purchase.

Pre Made or Made To Measure?

The first thing you’ll need to work out is if you want pre-made or made to measure blinds. Pre-made blinds are available off the rack from most homeware retailers.

They’re made to set sizes rather than to the size of your window.

You run the risk of having a blind too small or having to cut down a large blind. So while this is a cheaper option, it can end up being more work for you to cut the blind down to size.

Made to measure blinds are a bit more costly but don’t have the risk of being the wrong size. With a made to measure blind, you just need to measure your window to see how big your blind will need to be.

Then find a made to measure blinds retailer to make your custom sized blind for you. You’ll need to wait a bit longer for delivery as they’re made to order. Believe me, the wait is worth it.

What Room Is The Blind Going In?

The next thing for you to consider is where you’re going to have your new blinds. Some blinds are unsuitable for certain rooms in the house.

For example, a roman blind made of cotton would not work in a bathroom as the moisture would be sucked into the cotton blind and cause it to rot.

So, if you’re looking for a bathroom/kitchen blind you’ll want to find one mainly made out of PVC or polyester. That way, it won’t be damaged by the humidity.

For your bedroom, you’ll want a blind made of blackout material to help keep your room dark. Though in the other rooms of your home, any blinds will be appropriate.

What’s Your Budget?

Having an unlimited budget for home décor is the dream for every décor enthusiast. Unfortunately, in the real world, we have strict budgets to follow.

So once you have found a blind suitable for whatever room you’re adding a blind to, you need to consider the cost.

Luckily blinds are quite affordable, but retailers will have price differences between different collections of blinds and what material they’re made of.

A good tip to consider is set expectations in that department and choose from a product line affordable to you.
