We spend a large portion of our lives sleeping. That is why I am a firm believer in investing in a bed that will help you feel refreshed and ready to take on your day.
When I was asked to try out a new mattress from Douglas by GoodMorning.com, I was intrigued. I had heard about beds in boxes and I like the idea of being able to order a bed from the comfort of my own home.
While a mattress is usually something that you normally want to test out before you buy, with Douglas mattresses by GoodMorning.com, you can try it out for 120 days and if it isn’t for you, you can send it back for a full 100% refund. Even if you decide it isn’t for you after 30 nights of sleeping on it, you can send it back. Now, I don’t know any store that will allow you to do that.
My kids may not be little anymore, but every day of being a mom can be exhausting. I got so tired of being tired every day that I decided to do something about it. For all the tired people out there, there may not be any rest for the weary, but I believe we all deserve some rest! Check out these tips for getting more shut-eye.
1. Power down early
I know it can be tempting to have some screen time before bed or binge-watch your current favourite show into the wee hours of the night. One thing that does wonders for getting more sleep is powering down an hour or two before your bedtime. Dim the lights, watch one episode of your show or grab a book and read until sleep hits you.
2. Invest in a bed that helps you get better rest
One of the best decisions we made was getting a King-sized bed. I think we were going on 9 years with our current King, so it was time to start looking for a new one. A few things that I noticed was that I was waking up tired every day. I felt sore and that lasted for most of the day. I knew it was most likely from not getting good rest at night.
I’m a stomach sleeper and I noticed that with my old mattress, my knees would hurt in the morning. Darasak noticed that lately, his shoulder has been super sore. He’s a side sleeper so, we have definitely started to notice the little aches and pains.
Let’s be real, good rest helps me be a better mom and overall a way better person. Getting a mattress like the Douglas Mattress is something I will never regret doing. It is a medium-firm mattress that has helped support my back and get better rest. I legitimately feel the difference. I wake up not-so-sore and I’m able to accomplish more in my day.
I’ll admit that I was a bit apprehensive at the thought of memory foam. I always thought that it would be too firm for my liking. I was surprised when it conformed to my body and how incredibly comfortable it was.
Check out the Unboxing
I mentioned that it came in a box, right? Right to our front door! Opening it was pretty cool because once you take it out and cut open the vacuum sealed plastic, it starts to expand. In no time, it’s ready to use! Check out the video of our unboxing! Since we were building a new bed frame for Gabby, we decided to open it in her empty room and let the girls give it a go. After that, we moved it into our room. Let me tell you, they loved it and we know where we will be getting their next mattresses.
Thought I’d answer a few questions that I had before making the leap.
How much does it cost?
Prices start from $649 for a twin to $899 for a California King.
Is it stiff?
You’ll notice that it is a bit stiff but, after 30 days–it fits your body like a glove. Darasak thought it was a bit stiff, while I felt that it was nice and soft.
Does it have an odour?
I noticed a faint smell that dissipated after a few hours. But, they use high-grade materials that have little to no odour or chemical off-gassing. Their ecoLight™, Elastex™, and support foams are certified by the CertiPUR® program. They do not contain any harmful chemicals, heavy metals, or impact the air quality. You don’t have to air out the mattress for a night, y’all.
I’ve always been passionate about doing my part for the environment. That means doing my best to keep the environment from more harm. That is why the Douglas Mattress makes me so happy. It’s one of the most environmentally friendly mattresses on the market and it’s made right in Canada.
Their eco-story comes down to less carbon, better materials, and cleaner energy. This mattress only has half the carbon footprint as regular memory foam mattresses. You will notice that the Douglas has a lighter feel and it even more breathable. Since it weighs less, it can even be delivered using less fuel. Since every part of the mattress is made in Canada, the carbon footprint is reduced even more.
3. Put Down the Coffee, Pick Up a Book
Late-afternoon caffeine can cause problems for your sleep, even if you aren’t aware of it. Studies advise to stick to a 2 PM caffeine cut-off and leave the coffee for the morning. Since caffeine is a stimulant, having coffee at night may have you counting sheep and not getting rest. Instead, wind down grab a book and read until you get sleepy. The combination of a comfy bed and a good book is not only a great way to relax but, leads to better sleep.
4. Keep it Cool or Stay Warm
I’m the type of person that needs a fan on all-year-round. I’m always warm and I sleep half in and half out of my blanket. Darasak, on the other hand, likes to be warm when he sleeps. Finding the right temperature as a couple can be a challenge but, all it takes is having a fan going and grabbing a throw blanket for your partner.
Another way to find the right temperature is by having a good mattress. The Douglass mattress has the CoolSense Cover. It’s a washable cover that is made with a Natural Eucalyptus Fabric, which draws away from the moisture and keeps you cool and dry while you sleep.
A few other features of this mattress that make it awesome include:
- 2” Luxury ecoLight™ Cooling Gel Foam
- 2” Premium Elastex™ Foam
- 6” Motion Isolation Support Foam
5. Eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water
One of the most basic things you can do to get better rest is to eat healthier and drink plenty of water. No one is calling you out on what you ate today. Simply put, just try to make healthier decisions when you can. This way, your body is ready to rest fully, when you do get the chance to lay down.
6. Find small moments to rest throughout the day
If you’re anything like me, you go until you can go no more. I’ve been trying to find more rest in my day. Those small moments are really adding up to help me be more well rested. For example, I can’t work every waking moment. I do need to take some time to rest. Sleeping in a little, taking a cat nap, or even getting to bed earlier helps.
7. Say “no” to more things
One of the reasons we’re so tired is that we say yes to so many things. Start saying no more, so you can get more rest at the end of the day. We’re very much a go-go-go society, but if it’s not getting you anywhere but tired. Start saying no. I promise, there will always be something you can say yes to later down the road.
Good Sleep Awaits
