How To Create The Coziest Living Room For The Winter

When the weather outside is frightful, as the song says, it’s best to have a cozy living room to retreat to. A couch you can splay out on, a thick blanket you can snuggle into, and a warm drink that makes you feel healed and refreshed.

It’s the best interior to spend your winter in!

But to make sure you’re as cozy as possible in the living room this winter, here are three design elements you’ll want to invest in.

Create That Fireside Feeling

Gathering round the fireside with a cocoa in hand and a blanket round your shoulders – that’s the real cozy dream during the winter time!

Create this feeling in your living room by creating a comfortable gathering space with a central focus, even if this is just a heater below the TV.

Of course, if you’ve got an actual fireplace in your home, using it is the best way to get cozy and comfortable while the weather rages outside.

Pop a grate in front if you’re worried about sparks and cinders, and keep the flames small but well-fed.

However, if it’s been a while since you last used the fireplace, you may want to hire a chimney sweep before you light any firewood within it.

A soot build-up is not only messy, but could be dangerous as well.

Keep the Lights Low

A cozy feeling often comes from the level of light we’re dealing with. It’s dark outside — and winter nights are usually very long and cold.

Indoors you can combine your choice over the lighting level with switching the central heating on and just relax!

And a low, intimate level of lighting tends to be the coziest of all. So turn off the big overhead light that’s common for use in the living room and start using smaller sources of illumination.

Set some fairy lights over the back of the armchair you like to curl up in, or get a tray of candles to flicker away on the bookshelf underneath the window.

You can even combine both and top it off with a white bulb standing lamp in the corner, which will make sure you can see where you’re going.

Get a Lot More Texture

Winter living rooms should be as soft and textured for warmth as possible. That means ten times the amount of cushions and ten times the amount of throws.

It also means maybe getting a fluffy rug to go on the floor, just for the season ahead, which can be swapped out for something lighter in the spring.

You should also add little touches of texture to furniture pieces like sideboards and the coffee table.

Get coasters that have a fuzzy texture for the latter, and some runners to go on the former. These can add some much-needed color during the winter season too.
