Explore Kawarthas Northumberland Region!

Our small family of four are travel addicts, we yearn for it. When my husband and I plan our vacations and trips, we want to visit places we’ve never seen before and something that truly excites us. While big city getaways is something to lust for, we also very much appreciate natural beauty and activities that will keep us active.

The factors that inspire us are rich and immersed culture, that is amalgamated with history, amazing culinary eats and beautiful sights that we can take in.

Never heard of Kawarthas Northumberland Region?

The Kawarthas Region  is located just east and northeast of Toronto and is easily accessed via Highways 401, 35/115 and 7. Southern border is Lake Ontario, eastern border is Prince Edward County, northern border is Haliburton, western border is Durham. The biggest geographic feature  are  the  many  lakes,  rivers  and  canals that makeup  the Trent   Severn  Waterway  (including  the world’s highest hydraulic locks in Peterborough and Kirkfield). Region has a rich history starting with the fur trade, logging and mining, the early settling of Upper Canada, and the importance of its ports as commercial centers for shipping in the Great Lakes. Popular outdoor activities are boating, fishing  and  hunting,  hiking,  cycling, birding,  ATV, horseback riding, golfing, motorcycle touring and various watersports.

Art and Culture.

Coming for a musical family, one of the things that I love to do when I travel is catch the local music scene. Having been in a band myself, I can really appreciate music and nothing like taking it in when you’re on holiday.

In Westben in Campbellford is a magnificent 400–seat timber-‐frame barn that opens onto a lush meadow, surrounded by the gently rolling hills of Northumberland County. The stage hosts an incredible array of renowned Canadian & international artists, from full symphony orchestras & choruses to chamber music and soloists.

For the Adventurer!

Though we aren’t hardcore adventurers when it comes to nature, we do have adventure in our hearts and we are willing to give anything a try. As long as it’s safe for our family, we are more than happy to get our feet wet, get dirty and have fun in nature. The Kawarthas have many places to hike and get your fix for nature.

Farmer’s Market’s and Local Cuisine!

One of the things that the girls love to do is go to farmer’s market’s or to pick fresh fruit. They can taste some of the many seasonal splendors ranging from crisp green beans right off the vine to delicious, wild blueberries perfect for pies! Nothing like making your very own delicious concoctions or taking some home with you. Farmers Markets are open throughout the region every Saturday until Thanksgiving.

On the savory side, shop for sausages, local beef and lamb. You may even discover emu meat. Look for artisan-‐made goat cheese to put on homemade, gluten-‐free bread, jam preserves to spread on fresh-‐baked scones and varieties of honey to glaze your pork ribs. I know my Hubby and I would definitely enjoy trying them all!
