Dine Al Fresco with this Shabby Chic Farm Style Table Setting! #AlFrescoAtLast
Thanks to Wayfair.ca for collaborating with me to share this table setting post that is inspired by shabby chic and farm style styling.
Shabby Chic and Farm Style Table Setting!
Summer is on its way and with the warmer temperatures and longer days, BBQ season will be in full swing before you know it. But, before you start sending out the invitations for your next cookout and get together, you need to have your table ready.
One of our favourite things about the summer is the chance to eat outside. Our town is great for outdoor patios but, there really isn’t anything like having that same feel at home. For enjoying any meal outside, whether it is breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner–you’ll love this romantic and simple style!
Nostalgic.
What I love about the shabby chic and farm style look is that not only is it romantic but, it makes you feel good. To me, there is something special about visiting your grandparents at the farm. That feeling and excitement that you would get knowing that they had your favourite meals cooking. Even the smell and feel of it brings you good memories.
What I love about shabby chic is that every item has a story. I enjoy seeing things that are distressed or aged, it means that they have been used and loved. Memories have been made with them and whether they are made to look that way or have been naturally distressed over time, it’s truly a beautiful look.
So, I thought that for our outdoor dining table setting this year, I’d combine both styles and the result was a hit with the whole family.
Whimsical.
As you can see, I’ve used neutral colours. The tablecloth is in a soft grey and is trimmed with a delicate crocheted white trim. Any grey tablecloth will do, it is up to you of course.
For each place setting, I decided to use vintage willow rattan chargers and place cream dishes with scalloped edges and beautiful embossed details. You can find a similar style with these French Perle sets on Wayfair. I chose white cloth napkins to contrast.
The flatware I used were stainless steel with a silver finish. I love them because they have a hammered finish and have an almost handcrafted feel. To me, they remind me of flatware that is made well and built to last that are used throughout generations.
Drinkware was an easy pick, with mason jar mugs, you really cannot go wrong. Mason jars are my absolute favourite for drinkware and decor, so it was a no-brainer.
Bring on the Decor!
For decor, I arranged a small bouquet of mums, flat daisies, carnations, mini carnations and alstroemerias. For a little ambiance into the evening, I added a candle holder with a white electric candle. The candle holder is decorated with rope.
To give the table a vintage feel, a decorative cement bird and birdcage felt fitting. I filled the birdcage with pink flowers for a pop of colour. For a farm style feel, I placed them inside a galvanized metal tray with rope handles. You can find a similar metal tray on Wayfair.ca.
What’s in a Name?
Just about EVERYTHING. One thing that I absolutely love to do when coming up with table settings is to personalize each setting. A simple way to do this is to quickly make your own.
I made ours in less than 15 minutes and it was incredibly easy. I purchased paper tags with cream ribbons and used small doilies and cut enough to go across the tag and glued them on. After that, I just wrote the names with a fine point pen in a script font.
Time for Refreshments!
Aside from getting our outdoor patio ready for the summer, we wanted to have a refreshment table ready too. You can use another set of the same tablecloth and decor. Arranging another bouquet of flowers keeps the theme going too.
I love having water set out, especially when it’s hot. I always fill a beverage dispenser with water, lots of ice and fresh fruit. The design is textured and it makes for a gorgeous centerpiece too. Plus, it’s functional and is great for serving punch and juice too.
You’re All Set!
Now that you have inspiration for your outdoor table setting and a refreshment table, you are ready to dine al fresco. Summer entertaining is meant to be fun, whimsical, comforting and a little bit nostalgic.
With these outdoor dining inspirations, you’re sure to bring out those feelings in your family and friends all summer long.
How are you going to style your outdoor table this summer?
Let me know, til then–cheers m’deres!

Love your table setting! My favorite part of all though was the name cards. They are super cute and personal. But I love the entire shabby chic look. It reminds me of a wedding in a barn. I love the distressed pieces and I love how you worded it that the pieces were used and loved. Really, isn’t that what live is all about being useful and loved? The table is perfection!
Wow, thank-you so much for such a thoughtful comment. Very kind! I do love it too, for that very reason.
This is definitely my style! I have pretty much ZERO outside space 🙁 I am just going to have to figure out how to incorporate this style into my inside table settings.
That is awesome, it is versatile enough to do inside for sure.
