The Dog Days of Summer.
We are holding on tight.

August is the perfect time to do all of the things on your summer bucket list that you haven’t gotten around to yet, whether it’s camping, cottaging, hiking, or taking a road trip. We have been busy playing tourist in our own city and exploring parks and nature paths that we’ve never visited. We’ve also taken small road trips and made new memories. Not to mention, we’ve been taking advantage of splash pads and sprinklers–you simply cannot go wrong!

On down times, wherever we are, we are able to access our Netflix on our devices or we bust out the popcorn and cuddle at home. We’ve been watching some adventure-inspiring titles like the ones listed below. Check them out!

Netflix-August-01

Adventure for The Taking!

1. The Adventures of Tintin
2. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
3. Tad: The Lost Explorer
4. The Adventures of Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Treasure
5. National Treasure
6. Labou and the Quest for the Lost Treasure

There’s nothing that can get you in an adventurous mood more than watching these titles! We watched National Treasure and the girls were blown away by all the signs that they tracked down in able to find the National Treasure. I love how they played with actual historic facts. Tin Tin was an action-packed, crime-fighting gem. Journey 2 The Mysterious Island, well, c’mon now–it’s The Rock. He never ever disappoints and he does family movies so well!

Netflix-August-02

Adventurous Fun for The Littles.
  1. Dora The Explorer
  2. Wild Animal Baby Explorers
  3. Tree Fu Tom
  4. Rubbadubbers: Tubb’s Pirate Treasure
  5. A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures
  6. The Hive

Sometimes, you just have to watch some titles that cater just to the little ones. Dora the Explorer has been in our lives for a very, very long time. Gabby used to be obsessed with her and now, Mimi loves her too. Watching this show not only is fun and adventurous but, educational too. A Turtle’s Tale is a great movie, the characters are cute and the story–a great one! Tubb’s Pirate Treasure is perfect for all the little pirates in your life!

Gastronomes in The Making.

Being raised by not only 1 but, 2 self-proclaimed gastronome for parents, well, these girls had no chance! They love food and while they still can be picky like most kids are, we try to encourage them to be adventurous and try new things.

This is a quick and easy snack that incorporates hummus, food that some kids may not have tried or are too afraid to. Gabby made these herself and she loves hummus. They are ham, cheese and hummus pin wheels and cucumber hummus bowls with carrots to dip. You can see the full recipe, here.

How adventurous were you this summer?

Let me know, til then–cheers m’deres!

  1. Since watching Gabby's video, I went out and bought myself some Hummus, there was so many different flavours to choose from and being new to Hummus I decided to try the Pine Nut, well you got me hooked I'm a Hummus lover now and I love using the garlic one on toast when I feel like garlic bread and i have been putting a little bit on hubby's sandwiches as a spread, so far he hasn't said anything, he must like it too, tell Gabby thanks for the great video she did!!

  2. We had a pretty laid back summer. The few plans we had we cancelled, my father in law passed away at the end of July..

  3. I agree that summer went fast too. My kids watched Tad from that list, but that's it so far. I agree with you about the Rock though, can't go wrong with him! My son LOVES hummus and I love the look of those cucumber bowls!

  4. I didn't do as much as I'd like. But, since Arizona weather is usually great all year long, we still have plans to do much much more!

  5. We tried to get away as much as we could while also exploring our hometown of Toronto. All in all, we were successful, I think! Next year, we might make a summer bucket list.

  6. Not very adventurous this summer, stayed around here, but we only live 5 minutes from the beach so not to hard to take

  7. Summer went by way too quick 🙁 We didn't watch too much Netflix this summer but now that it is fall I am sure we will be catching up, will have to check out some of the movies you highlighted!

  8. me, I'm never really adventurous. I'm always surprised at the things my children (adults) eat and enjoy – must have different taste buds to me! I do find that I like a lot more things that I would never touch as a child – onions, mushrooms, cucumber to mention but a few.

  9. Thanks for the list of shows there are a few we have not seen they will be perfect for a rainy day !
