Why Your Next Pair of Glasses Should Have Transition Lenses

On average, glasses wearers replace their eyewear, every couple of years. They do this for different reasons. Often, it is because their prescription has changed. Sometimes it is because they have damaged or lost the pair they already own.

Whatever the reason for replacing your glasses is it is important to buy a good replacement pair. Your eyes are vital, so you need to invest a little money into making sure that you look after them well. Let’s take a closer look at transition lenses and explain why you should consider paying a little extra to buy them.

Shockingly, around half of Caucasian Americans develop cataracts after the age of 75. Research shows that too much exposure to UV light, is a major contributing factor to cataracts.

The more you protect your eyes from the sun, the less likely it is that you will develop them. Yet, despite this, most of us still go out on bright days without wearing sunglasses. Oddly, this habit is more common amongst people who need prescription glasses to be able to see clearly.

Why Not Use Them?

Many of us do not own a pair of prescription sunglasses. Yet, we refuse to wear clip-ons or the ones that can be worn over a pair of ordinary eyeglasses. Instead, we risk our eye health and wear nothing.

Even those of us that own a pair of prescription sunglasses rarely wear them. We tend to forget to take them out with us. Or, just find switching from one pair of glasses to another throughout the day to be too cumbersome.

Transition lenses solve the problem. You can put them on and forget about them. There is no need to remember to take a second pair out with you. Plus, they automatically change colour when you walk out of the door or go back inside.

However, you need to be a bit careful when buying a set of transition lenses. They are not cheap, so you do not want to end up inadvertently buying a pair you do not like wearing.

Consider Transitions

Your first consideration has to be how quickly the lenses change colour. You really should buy the most reactive lenses you can afford. The old-fashioned ones that take a bit longer to change colour when you go indoors can be very annoying to wear. You want your glasses to transition from dark to clear and clear to dark as quickly as possible.

It is also important to consider how your glasses look in both formats. Some frames look great when the lenses are in a clear phase. But, look odd when the lenses are in sunglasses mode.
