Open Letter to Susana: My Sisi is My Best Friend for Life.

My Sis is my BFFL. Two Sisters hugging for a picture.

Open Letter to Susana Whom is My BFFL.

To the outside world we all grow old.  But not to brothers and sisters.  We know each other as we always were.  Each other’s hearts and we share private family jokes.  We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys.  We live outside the touch of time.  ~Clara Ortega

I am truly one lucky gal.

Last week, my sister had a very momentous birthday. She turned the big 3-0 (don’t kill me Sisi) and yet, she manages to remind me what youth is. That beyond a doubt, you are only as old as you feel.

My sister is my best friend, unconditionally and wholeheartedly.

From teaching me how to read, from tying my shoes–to shaving my legs and plucking my brows. From tending my scraped knees, to holding me through bad days. She’s always been there and I am lucky to have such a great sister. She’s taught me that in life you can find deep relationships and foster beautiful friendships but, you will always have a best friend in a sister.

No matter what.

It’s been proven to me time and time again, for example, when I met some girls through an ex, she told me to “be careful” and that she didn’t get a good vibe off of them. At the time, I thought she was being paranoid. But, she told me one of the girls was worse than the other and boy was she ever right. The girl ended up being like the psycho from “The Roommate.”

I should have listened.

Years later, after I invested time and emotion behind friendships–my sister was the one that pulled the knife out of my back. She didn’t even tell me, “I told you so.”

Even though, I knew deep down she had all the grounds to.

Sisters annoy, interfere, criticize.  Indulge in monumental sulks, in huffs, in snide remarks.  Borrow.  Break.  Monopolize the bathroom.  Are always underfoot.  But if catastrophe should strike, sisters are there.  Defending you against all comers.  ~Pam Brown

She is like a second mom to my girls and has been a part of their life since the day they were born. I can rest assured that if anything were to happen to me, I know that they would be safe with her. She will make an amazing mother.

Well, we’ve had our rough times, like any siblings do and though most times I don’t like hearing her “two-cents,” I can think of a handful of times where I should have taken heed of them. She has an astounding sense of character which is most times right. As aforementioned.

There have been plenty of times that we look back and laugh at all the times we have been there for each other. Even though she is the eldest, I have always been the overprotective one. When I was younger, if you messed with my sister or anyone in my family, you were gonna get it baaaad and most times they did.

I didn’t care for consequence than either, now–though she can hold her own– I am still protective over her and I will always be up at arms whenever anyone tries to bring her down.

Best believe.

Most people think we are twins, though I am a head shorter! Darker and we have different builds. But, we’ve gotten used to it and I think I’m lucky to be compared to such a beautiful woman!

We are attached to the hip, we went back to school together, we do most everything together and don’t go a day without at least calling/texting each other. She is really my best friend and though I have my other BFF’s that have been with me through thick and thin (Jenn), I know that Jenn’s BFF is her CeCe too! That’s why when I was pregnant with Meems, I was really hoping for a girl. I wanted Gabs to have a sister and to have the same blessing I do.

We are lucky gals to have awesome sisters!

So, I want to take some time out to wish her a Happy Birthday. I’m incredibly thankful to have another stupendous year with her. I can’t wait to get old together and still be up to our shenanigans. You know that when we’re old and grey, I’ll still be doing the robot and you’ll be doing the Vector. Or, me, Opera lady. I will always be your chillum and you’ll always be Sana to me.

We are straight up silly and although we’re pushing 30 (I am) and she’s already there, we are really just as young as we feel.

I love you Sisi! This quote is for you:

Sister to sister we will always be,
A couple of nuts off the family tree.

P.S.- I still don’t forgive you for quitting Twitter. Hehe. J/K!

Are you as blessed as me with an awesome sister or brother? My brother is awesome sauce but, a sisterly bond is something that’s at a whole ‘nother level! For some reason, have you lost touch with your siblings and what’s stopping you from rekindling it? If you feel like sharin’, I’m up for listenin’!

Do you have a sibling?

Til then, cheers m’deres!
